What is the rate of return from the investment of £30k in a Council Officer? Would the rate of return be greater if the £30k businesses paid went into a pot controlled by the business sector? Surly a pot controlled by businesses would have a far greater value as their prime purpose would be profit motivation rather than a servant of the Council ticking boxes.
This would be a good question for the Town Centre Forum.:D

People need to realise that Town Centre development and growth cannot be altered by any Council.
Dylan,Why do we have, and pay probably, around £30k per annum for a TOWN CENTRE MANAGER?and a more costly ECONOMIC DEVELOPEMENT DEPARTMENT.;);)
jimbowParticipantMaybe now is the time before it is too late to try and revamp Henblas Street. The site of the old Hippodrome could be opened up and the Monday Market transferred to this area.On the other days maybe this could become the centre of promotional activities. It is clear that the large multiples cannot sustain either the rents or rates in this area.
jimbowParticipantWould it not be possible in the interests of Wrexham Town Centre that the Council remove Eagles Meadow car parking from the illuminated signs,or at least show the car park as being full. This would hopefully deter any new visitors to Wrexham getting the wrong impression of the town.Wrexham has to live as well as Vinci
jimbowParticipantUp to October 2013 the council gave an occupation level of 85% for their car parks. This would bring in an estimated return of around £900,000.I am now led to believe that the present average monthly users of council car parks is just under £60,000.It would appear from this information that Council car park revenue has fallen by around £180,000 per year, since the increase in car park charges.Maybe Tesco have taken up the slack, who knows?
jimbowParticipantCllr Rogers referred to there being no sweeteners available to local authorities for amalgamation.Yet the Welsh Government say incentives will be given to those Local Authorities who merge voluntarily.Who can we believe?

As we are told it is TOO LATE to consult the publis-who after all vote for us here goes.
What facts do you need to make a decision?
Any views from Flintshire?
What are your concerns about the merger, or indeed Wrexham standing alone?
Will it help or hinder the representation county, town or community councillors give to you?Yes the public do vote for you to look after their interests.Cllr Rogers reference 33.22 Agenda item 9 on the streaming states,he hopes that all councillors take the time to read the Invitation to Principal Authorities in Wales to submit their proposals for voluntary mergers.Less than 10 minutes later those Councillors who have not read the report have unanimously voted, to not consult on a merger. Is this what we elect them for,to vote blind?
All the facts have not been discussed or as yet, not all are known.I would have thought that rather than turn the invitation down,at least keep an open view to see if there is anything more in the future of a merger that could benefit Wrexham.
If Wrexham does stand alone, can the Welsh Government overturn that decision and merge Wrexham and Flintshire?
If it is found in the future that the merger of any other two Councils has produced a significant saving, then would Wrexham then be told you will have less money allocated than last year,as other Councils are doing better?

I watched most of the meeting last night (until the football came on :) ) and there was complete lack of debate on any subject. Decisions had obviously been made previously along party lines. I have seen more debate and democracy at the Darts league AGM. Once the ruling group has been decided you may as well send the rest of the councillors home to avoid paying attendance allowances.
Totally agree (but I did not watch the football).:):):)

Did anyone pick up on the snippet about Councilors ‘pensions’ not being part of the scheme being discussed. Did anyone know that they had a pension entitlement?
Interesting Councilors say they are not employed so dont get a salery but only an allowance — then we hear that they are also entitled to a Pension!I have heard of this before.Imagine being a retired Council employee on a pension, then becoming a Councillor and receiving another pension.
jimbowParticipantI cannot understand the way in which the decision to refuse a merger with Flintshire has been concluded. In my opinion we should not agree or disagree to refuse, without being fully aware of all the facts. Two workshops have been held within the Council and decisions made to reject a merger. We are now told by Cllr Rogers that it is TOO LATE to consult with the public. One concern that came across was that maybe some councillors would lose their jobs.Flintshire is a designated special area for business grants,Wrexham does not have this, maybe in a merger Wrexham could have this to.A long standing Councillor still harped on about CITY STATUS.Will he not accept that the public whom he serves turned it down.
