I thought they all got free parking anyway.
There was a time when Council employees did have free parking in the Peoples Market long stay area. This practice however according to the Council is not now the case.
jimbowParticipantI have just re listened to the webcast of the Executive Board .I originally thought that all day parking had been reduced to £2 for all long stay parking from January 2015.However this is not the case, the reduction is only for long stay in the Peoples Market. The Waterworld site long stay remains at £3.The majority of long stay parkers on these sites I presume could be Council staff.Talk about looking after your own flock:confused::eek::)
jimbowParticipantThis is ok for a start. But Wrexham is OPEN FOR BUSINESS the whole year round ,not just for XMAS.They have reduced all day parking, but left the charges the same for the people that are going to shop in the town on a regular basis. The Council have not thought it out AGAIN.
jimbowParticipantI agree totally with the above. It is just a pity that we cannot find out the revenues from each of the car parks i.e. long stay,1hour tickets ,two hour tickets etc.We could then possibly work out a better system of charges.I am led to believe that the present monthly revenue from car parks has fallen to an average of £60,000 per month. This I believe is a drop in revenue due to the increase in charges.

There are set rules for Charity shops that sell new items about the % of sales that are permitted before they can loose their rate relief. The Council as the rating authority should ‘police’ the situation and act if there are complaints which all businesses are entitled to do if their business is being affected.
The Council or trading standards do not do anything about it.Another scenario is shops that have banners saying closing down sale, last five days. You then find the same banners still there two months later. It’s just a con.The Council are too busy to bother.

Charity shops shoud be seen side by side with lots of independent shops that provide a very wide range of products. The fact that people buy cheap in a charity shops means they could have more money to spend in their traditional shops provided they have the right product range on offer.
Some problems I found when in business in the markets were that Charity shops were buying in new goods from the Manchester wholesalers, and then undercutting the independent retailer. When an independent retailers livelihood is threatened I can assure you it is not a nice feeling.

People poo poo the fact of Charity shops but, believe me, they attract the shoppers especially in the area that I trade in and Wrexham has loads, Broughton Park none (?)
Charity shops may well attract shoppers, but in my opinion that type of shop attracts browsers looking for second hand bargains. The entrepreneur is looking for buyers not browsers.Charity shops probably do not pay full rent or rates,so have a head start. The variety in Broughton Park (only one phone shop) is far superior to Eagles Meadow and now with M & S new food shop opening shortly the fight gets harder.
jimbowParticipantSaxon and Pinko o2 I think if you listen to the Council webcast from tonights Planning meeting, and the refusal of the planning officers recommendations by councillors, for the Rhosrobin site. You may find issues that will help your defence.

I also think its sad that we don’t support and encourage small independent shops more in Wrexham. They are opening up all the time and then they close soon after, presumably down to a combination of rent and a lack of interest from customers. We have two lovely victorian arcades in the town centre, Central and Arcade and both are almost empty. Why can’t we utilise them more? It makes me so angry! The council don’t seem to care that our town is dying, we are the biggest town in North Wales for gods sake!
I also think it is sad.Having said that, what could anybody sell that is not already available in the town at a price competitive enough to give them a living.Food is the only suggestion that I could come up with were you might have a chance.

The main bus station is owned by WCBC the retail outlets and old Fat Cat (due to reopen soon) is a different property company. Surprised if bus station does move as part of the King Street revamp £1.1 million was based on it being an entry point into the town — repayment of grants comes to mind if this was the case. That said nothing surprises in Wrexham these days.
Crown Buildings were due to come down as part of the rebuild of a new WaterworldI do not know how this Plod thread has got on to the bus station, but here goes. When the bus station was originally planned to be built the council received a grant for it of £1 million.Unfortunately at that time the plans fell through, and the council were desperate to now look for another project to fund, in case it lost the grant money. The £1 million was allocated to a new roof for the Butchers Market which was in need of replacement as it was leaking. The roof was replaced but was money ill spent as the new roof leaked worse than the old one.
