With the latest announcement of more ‘Independents’ now getting involved with the Top Table (Executive) on the Council by taking on Portfolios (and increased pay) the likelihood of any formal debates on any issues have all but disappeared. With so many coming together they will all toe the Party (sorry Group line). Previously all Executive decisions were pushed through on a 7 : 3 ratio- In future it looks like it will be straight 10’s or 9:1
How so many Councilors who were elected based on their specific election campaign can now do such a turnaround is quite frankly astonishing. If any of these Councilors had an ounce of moral fabric they would all resign thereby forcing By-elections throughout the County and give the decision making back to local people through the ballot box.

Maybe they will now call themselves ABBA:- MONEY.MONEY,MONEY

The Peoples Market has a lettable floor area of 13,700 sq ft.This is let at around £15.00 per sq ft.The market is running at about 70% occupancy, returning around £143k.The running costs are met by the stallholders through the Service Charge. The Council can not afford to do away with an income of £143k.

Looking at the plans, the small area left for traders does not seem large enough, given the present occupation of the market. The reply given to Wrexham.com just about sums up the thought given to this project, when the reply on available space for traders is, IT IS HOPED that the market stalls would be moved to the vacant retail units. Here we go again WCBC just HOPING.Will the transformation of this part of the town result in dropping the name Peoples Market ?

I recall the PR from the Council about the plans for the Theatre. They were led by the then Head of Economic Development, who later became a Strategic Director. There were a lot of red faces when it was turned down. When you look at our present situation in Wrexham,I have concerns over the Market/Art Centre proposals.

With the above just being a few of the ‘failures’ of the Council how on earth can we have confidence that this Arts/Culture Centre will not fall by the wayside at the first hurdle unless the Council hand over everything at this first stage of concept and leave the experts and those with enthusiasm. Hand over NOW before we the ratepayers of Wrexham are saddled with a liability we will all be paying for for years to come!!

Dylan. I agree with the above. It has,and always will be in Wrexham,if you want anything to go wrong, get the Council involved.

Wrexham over the last 20 to 30 years seem to have got everything wrong:eek::eek:

I agree. It took nearly 60 years after the 2nd world war ended for a major road to be built onto Wrexham Industrial Estate. An estate that employs thousands of people and is said to be the biggest in Wales. We lack anybody with push, complacency seems to be the name of the game in Wrexham.

Could not some of the grant money be allocated to the purchase of T.J.Hughes.?Then as alluded to by Alunh some 12 months ago, the entrances of T.J.Hughes in Henblas Street and Chester Street could be joined by retail enterprises. The Gallery would fit comfortably into the rest of the premises along with the upstairs café area.Parking would be to the rear of the premises and the Peoples Market would benefit from the project without all the upheaval that will occur if the Gallery goes into the Peoples Market.Just a thought.

As reported in yesterdays local press a labour group insider said the split was caused by a vote at a private labour party meeting over the future of Plas Madoc Leisure Centre. The paper understood the vote was split 13 to 10 in favour of providing financial support for Splash Community Trust to help take over the centre.
If this is correct and it is the same 10 that have re signed from the Labour Group.I presume that the 10 do not accept the majority democratic voting process. Now the belief is that they will be joining the Democratic Independents,I hope that they know the meaning of a majority vote before shifting their allegiance.

Early suggestions are that they will join deputy leader Mark Pritchard’s democratic independents, taking them up to 20. Could push Labour out of the coalition.

Could anybody tell me the difference between the Wrexham Independants and the Democratic Independants on Wrexham County Borough Council ? Both of whom, before todays dummy throwing saga, had 10 seats each.

It is so sad to hear of this feuding in local politics. We elect representatives to look after the interests of all the residents of Wrexham as a whole.Maybe it is about time we returned to full Council meetings in which all councillors can have their individual say, and get rid of the eletist Executive Board.
