@wrexham I found a black mobile phone on Ruthin Road by the lights. If its yours have handed it in to Wrexham Police. Had a text on screen from. A Charlotte if that helps? (phone is locked) found today 25th May 2.15pm
The "Multi-Location Meetings Protocol" is agreed - and the meeting ends. It seems Item 2 on the election/appointment of a Deputy Mayor has totally disappeared.
Cllr Derek Wright asks what time the Guildhall closes and is told it is open until 7pm. Historically we have seen debates cut short and therefore democracy stifled as the building closes. Appears if committees want different hours they can ask.
Cllr Harper welcomes the planned formal review the arrangements for holding meetings "in order to provide
flexibility in Council business" noting some new councillors have struggled to attend everything since being elected due to work / other commitments.
Exec Board, Committees and Scrutiny all sort of sorted out - will be another week before it is all firmed up on who is on what. Now sorting who are the members on the NW Police & Crime Panel (Clr Marc Jones / Nigel Williams) - then on to sorting out calendar of meetings.
Just under an hour into the meeting the main doors have opened, should stop some of the Independent group from melting, plus pandemic (!) (No 1 on the checklist from Welsh Gov guidance to "apply in your workplace or business activities"... ) (LINK)
"There seems to be an anomaly...." a phrase that is unwelcome as committees are firmed up, groups put forward chairs/vice chairs and usually it is pre-discussed. Appears issue sorted in list circulated during meeting - errors in maths has created procedural faff.
The busy Guildhall chamber has not got any cooler, appears one facecover/mask on, no ventilation - despite three doors and lots of windows that could be used.
Now the nitty gritty of who gets what on committees via political balance - baffling how the maths was only formalised just over an hour before this meeting. Election was ages ago! This is going to take a while...
What roles they have is not yet known, believe that is in the 'gift' of the new Council Leader technically
Executive Board revealed as Cllr Dana Davies asks whos is on it, Legal Officer says cllrs...
David A Bithell
Terry Evans
Hugh Jones
Beverly Parry-Jones
John Pritchard
Mark Pritchard
Paul Roberts
Rob Walsh
Nigel Williams
Phil Wynn
“one correction” referenced by Legal Officer, regarding legal rules on rounding of numbers - it means two Chairs not three for the administration as in the public report. Who has lost a job they were expecting to have this afternoon? 👀 (LINK)
As covered previously there has been a big review into how Planning operates in Wrexham - significant change of 20 members to 16 (was wider recommended to go to 12) etc - vote passes and Constitution will be changed accordingly.
A "humbled" Council Leader Mark Pritchard says "as your leader I will give my 100% commitment to take Wrexham forward", as Cllr David A Bithell similarly emerges Deputy Leader. No surprises so far.
Cllr Mark Pritchard is returned as Council Leader once again, nominated by Cllr Hugh Jones and seconded by Cllr David A Bithell. No other nominations, think that is 26 for, 21 against and 1 abstain.
We have been told there has been a new version of a report circulated in the last hour or so - significant as could mean different allocations of Chair positions on committees. A role that can be worth £xxxx a year more for whoever gets them. No report made public though...
The new Mayor moves straight to apologies and minutes - it seems "2. Appointment of Deputy Mayor" on for formal Agenda has been ignored ( more: (LINK) )
Mics are working today - one rumour we heard was the issues yesterday was due to councillors and officers not turning them on. Explicit instructions on the on and off switch for them today.
The Guildhall chamber is back in person… some new bits like hybrid screen and new councillors, same old smell and squeaky chairs
Wrexham Council pick up the second part of the Full Council meeting from yesterday after the buffet break 👀 Watch live online here: (LINK) or from THE PUBLIC GALLERY in person - where we are for the first time since the pandemic began...!

@wrexham can anyone recommend a gardener for my mum? Literally just need someone local to mow the lawn every two weeks.
Brynteg showing off in the sun 👌
How good does it look when you get that light bouncing off the green leaves 🤩
A classic British summer scene accompanied by a family of ducks minding their own business in the background 😂
Families are struggling to put food on the table. WCBC thought it was acceptable to have a buffet!
🚂 The gravy train must stop!
Non of Plaid took part in the buffet.
Tonight @PlaidWrecsam made a donation to local charity @giventoshine £7.50 for each Plaid councillor.
@wrexham
Wrexham has a new Mayor! It is unclear who the Deputy will be, will it be an appointment or election? Hard to tell what went on due to the mess of the stream - plus more info on the buffet… (LINK)
🪵 Great pleasure to visit the Archwood Group and meet with Josh Burbidge and members of the team at their factory in #Chirk @wrexham.
♻️ Good opportunity to learn more about their big strides towards renewable energy and their success as a company with rapidly growing sales.
Spooling through the re-run of that meeting to work out what happened is like watching a film from the 1920s (LINK)
In the WCBC Constitution for the Annual Meeting there should have been two elections. It is hard to know what happened, we saw a new Mayor - but did 4.10.1.3 take place @wrexhamcbc ?
Webcast stops for the second time - think that is it now for today as councillors retire for a civic soirée, we asked earlier about the menu it ...“consists of sandwiches, wraps, savouries, fruit platter, cakes, orange juice, tea or coffee”
Mace being removed again - think this will be the formal adjournment until tomorrow? Applause from the gown wearing councillors visible in the chamber. All in silence.
Cllr Paul Roberts has just stood and said something, no idea what. The new Mayor is now doing something, in theory there should be a Deputy Mayoral *election* going off the Constitution at some point…
The first substantial piece of audio 15mins in is Cllr Apsley now heard giving the Vote of Thanks to previous Mayor and welcoming the new Mayor (LINK)
Hopefully all the sound issues are sorted for when meetings start taking place in a hybrid format...
We assume Mayor Cameron is saying how ace it is to be a Mayor of Wrexham-City-To-Be
They are back in… new chains on Mayor - audio issues persist. We do have a new Mayor though…
Meeting over, webcast ends. Shambles. Do we have a new Mayor? What happened to the Deputy Mayor ‘appointing’? Was there any comments for the outgoing Mayor? (LINK)
The mace has been picked up and people are exiting the chamber. A five minute meeting, and a proper shocker from the public view looking in. What on earth just happened? No idea.
We have audio…sort of, seems councillor mics work but not the top table. Cllr Cameron formally nominated as Mayor for coming year.
We guess the Revd Dr Jason Bray just said the pray - now the outgoing Mayor looked like he introduced the Chief Exec Ian Bancroft who is saying a few words. No idea what they are though…
First meeting for a while and also the first for Wrexham’s new council. You can tune in and watch the meeting here at 4pm:
