Agenda for today’s Executive Board meeting as well as supporting documents. The Art Hub is referenced from page 191. Well worth a read even if you weren’t one of the 366 people who passed comment (although it doesn’t state what percentage were in favour)

Agenda for Executive Board on Tuesday, 13th January, 2015, 2.00 pm – WCBC

Pages 198 to 202 are restricted from press and public.

Aside from the income and footfall projections and where the funding is coming from, the concept of using a multi-storey carpark as a cultural hub is barking. That will be the view of most residents and also of our neighbours who no doubt will be having a good chuckle at the idea.

To jump on to wrexview’s point, if there are more details on the proposal (more than the 4 pages of pencil sketches) available then the public should have the opportunity to review it. If there are no further details, then how can the Executive Board commit any funding towards it?

What’s more than likely to happen is that any criticism of the proposal will be dismissed as general mud-slinging from the public and the Executive Board will push ahead regardless..

An empty shop has the potential to be a great addition to the town.

A pared-down version of a national chain of discount clothes stores simply reaffirms a run down area of town as discount alley. It will not bring back the shoppers the town needs and will stifle any future, positive investment.

As an antidote, it would be great to read more articles about some of the small business start-ups that are taking a leap of faith with their own cash and making a go of it in the town such as:

    • Emz-Cakes – Chester Street
    • Vollete – Charles Street
    • Mar Shop – Charles Street

These are the type of niche businesses that a market town can use to distinguish itself from its larger neighbouring towns and cities…

Sad to see the Tea and Coffee shop on High Street not renewing their lease though… :(

JO a lot is necessity– although we all have 52 weeks to plan for Christmas as creatures of habit many people leave things till last minute hence the traffic congestion. Many of the people will also be doing food shopping which they would not do in Cheshire Oaks. The shopping offer has not changed just the urgency to shop rather than perhaps seeing a trip to Broughton and Cheshire Oaks as more of a social occasion.
The problem is that Wrexham then does not attract shoppers from further afield on the same basis to come to town. The net effect is an outward footfall drift rather than inward.

Exactly this. The town limps along as it has a decent range of goods and services that people ‘need’ but doesn’t attract the social/leisure shopper for a variety of reasons as discussed on these forums and elsewhere..

This time of year it seems people are falling over themselves to buy things they perceive they ‘need’ wherever they can get hold of it. Which probably says more about Christmas than it does Wrexham…

I’ve heard today that the drilling company are planning to use Dihydrogen Monoxide at the site. A chemical found in the majority of tumours, potentially instantly lethal if sufficient quantity is inhaled and known to be a key ingredient used in industrial chemical plants. We need to stop and think if we want our children drinking this substance..

It truly defies belief that in an area beset with anti-social problems, which the police and PSCOs are struggling to contain, the council would give the go-ahead for another centre to open just across the road..

Within a few hundred yards we now have..

    – Champions House (Grove Road)
    – CAIS (Grove Park Road)
    – Community Drugs and Alcohol Service (Rhosddu Road)
    – Wrexham Conflict Resolution Service (Grosvenor Road)
    – Ty Croeso (Grosvenor Road)
    – TASS (Grosvenor Road)
    – St Johns Project (Chester Road)

    Amazing.

If only as much effort was put in to making things happen as put in to stopping things happening…

I appreciate Chester is clearly a more affluent area..

Key point really. We all know this but we never really seem to discuss why. Is Chester more attractive to mid and high end retail because it has a more affluent population or is it more attractive to higher earners because of what’s on offer??
