What a pity people were so free and easy with the bulldozer in 1960s-2000s Wrexham as their damage has had a serious negative impact on the town which still effects us today.
Just spent the day in Shrewsbury and the contrast is stark. Clearly a town that understands how important its heritage is.. Full of great independent shops, restaurants and cafes with new new ones opening all the time. With it comes extra investment such as the new theatre etc..
Shrewsbury builds an independent cinema in an existing historical building… Wrexham had an independent cinema which it knocked down to create, well, nothing.. A building site.
Wrexhams remaining heritage is blighted by tacky facades and poorly constructed 60’s boxes. It’s telling that on the old Groves school site the council are having to demolish the 60’s/70’s eyesore whilst the original building still stands.. Though I have the suspicion the council would secretly quite like it (and the derelict Grosvnor roasd sites) to fall in to a state beyond repair so they have “no choice” to replace it with another cheap and nasty box..
AdamParticipantHow good was that? One of the most pleasant evenings I can remember having in Wrexham.
For me, that’s exactly what a modern market should be. Good quality, local craft/produce which you can’t buy anywhere else.
Why shouldn’t this work once a month? Clearly there was a seasonal element lastnight but seeing such a great turnout it’s clear that people repsond positively when events such as this are well organised. It was great also to see our most prominent heritage site, the parish church, being used as a community space..
Even called in the Wynnstay for a quick one, for the first time in ages, and it was a great atmosphere of everyday shoppers popping in on their way past. No stag doos.. no hen parties.

Vodaphone are moving into the old Birthdays Card Shop , KFC are expanding their seating area to take in the Bargain Booze that closed in St.Georges Crescent and Caroline’s on Chester Street is having a complete revamp. The bookmakers has also opened in the old Burger King. Signs that trade is improving?
Looks like more than a revamp for Caroline’s. It’s now a bistro. Anyone have any more info on it..?
Looks like planning app in for Gym and shop in old T J Hughes site too.
AdamParticipantYou have to charge somebody first though before you can punish them.
Perhaps Wrexham.com could provide a summary of the number of car fires in the past 12 months alongside confirmed number of arrests/charges in relation to them..??

AdamParticipantSeems quite a balanced and fair report. Let’s hope the council are open minded enough to take some of the comments on board..
AdamParticipantCheers for the update
AdamParticipantThey exist I’m afraid because there are sufficient number of people in the town that find them perfectly adequate, and that’s fine. Everybody should be catered for; that’s the point. You may not particularly excited about food yourself but please understand there are many of us who are but feel frustrated that we have to go elsewhere. There are a wide range of incomes and social demographics in and around the town yet the limited range of shops and restaurants would suggest otherwise..
I completely agree with you about being put off by going in to town in the evenings due to the “riff raff”. Despite its many failings, at least Eagles Meadow has provided somewhere relatively civilised for couples/families to head for in the evenings.
AdamParticipantSo anybody have an update on the propsed off-license/Polish Deli on Chester St?? Looks to me as if they have started putting singage up on the windows.
Please tell me the council haven’t let this proceed..? After all the concerns raised by the local shops and even the police?

More restaurants/cafe’s/eating places and bookies are NOT what Wrexham needs. Or am I the only one who sees that?
Last time I went to sleepy panda I waited over 30 minutes for my food and when it did arrive, it was cold.
At the risk of repeating myself an others on this thread, it’s the lack of quality (that includes food as well as service) places to eat that is a problem, as highlighted in your final sentence.
