Who needs all these houses? 2011 census 63 million people. ONS projected population 73 million by 2037. 10 million people have got to live somewhere.

300+ houses proposed for old Dennis brickworks at Johnstown.
    230+ houses proposed at Rhostyllen.

According to censuses, the population of Llay was less in 2011 than it was in 1991 & 2001 so the houses are not being built for local people.

At last! A sensible cry from the wilderness! Of course, it’s easy to ignore data that doesn’t fit in with a particular point of view and dismiss it as nonsense, but the fact of the matter is, is that Wales is short of 11000+ homes at present and as you say, people have to live somewhere.

No names, no pack drill, but it evident that some would love to see all new build stopped and have Wrexham preserved in an 19th/20th Century time warp.

Wrexham, along with all other Local Authorities have a duty to facilitate the construction of new housing in line with Central and Welsh Government policy. In fact Wrexham was instructed to make provision for more than were included in the Unitary Development Plan.

The details of that are somewhere on this site and no doubt, one of the more diligent amongst us will locate it.

Houses are built for whoever can pay the asking price.

………….”so the houses are not being built for local people”

That just sums up why Wrexham has stagnated. In this day and age, people move around the country to provide a better standard of living for themselves and their families. Long gone are the days when people strayed no further than to where they could still see their local parish church.

    Modern living! Get on board!!!

    Llay Immigration Statistics
These figures for Country of Birth for the residents of Llay are from the UK Census of 2011. Since Llay has a lower level of residents born in the UK than the national average and a higher rate of residents either born in other EU countries or outside the EU, it does have a significant immigrant population.

Perusing the Planning Applications for tonight’s Council Planning Meeting it would seem that if you wish to build ONE house or erect a fruit and veg hut on an existing development, approval is recommended to be refused. However if you want to build 117 houses on green fields…………

Yes, people do need to live somewhere. If you go to Wrexham you will see endless buildings boarded up. Why not convert these to apartments? It seems that building on green fields is an easy option these days.

Most of those boarded up properties are owned by private property companies. When the property prices get high enough, you can bet they will be turned into whatever. But until then they will be sat on as an investment.
