Forgive my ignorance here, but does this mean that Cllr Rogers is no longer leader of the Council? If so, does this honour go to the deputy leader? I’m guessing not as his is not in Labour.

I find it ironic that staff, from junior to senior, have probably gone through a great deal of stress and heartache over the past 3 years or so, with the clear message that they need to ‘keep it together’ and provide the service they are involved in with less funding and general resources, yet the Councillors, who are ultimately charged with deciding on the future of these services, cannot keep it together themselves!

I have nothing against Cllrs’ Rogers or King, but I do feel that this in-fighting does nothing to enhance the reputation of the council with the fair-minded people of Wrexham (not the Council haters or those with anti-Council agendas) and as a Town we need strong leadership and clear objectives and this sort of behaviour only detracts from that.

I was under the impression that the site of the new prison was in the ownership of Wrexham County Borough Council but it looks like it belonged to the Welsh Assembly and they have just transferred ownership in June to the Ministry of Justice for nothing!

Maybe this remarkable act of generosity should be reflected in the prison name. Freeland Prison perhaps! (‘Free…Prison’….they’ll never go for it) ;)

In this case, the simple answer is no. The little man you mention will ticket you if you leave the site without moving your car. I’ve personally witnessed 3people arguing with him over his overzealous ticketing.

On the other side of the argument, he is only doing his job and why should the Car Park owners pay rates only for people to park for free and then shop at one of their competitors?

I think the same rules apply at many of the other free, private car parks in (and out) of Wrexham. Somebody will no doubt find a way to blame the Council but they have no control over the private car parks.

It is so strange that two Authorities neighboring each other are dealing with budget issues so differently– Has Wrexham been overstaffed for so long it became the norm whereas Flintshire dealt with staffing levels as they occurred.
Why are we in such a bad state in Wrexham — how many staff have had their last day working today- these are the ones losing out.

Sorry dylan can you clarify? WCBC management structure stands at 13 whereas FCC is looking to reduce from 18 to 10 so how are WCBC overstaffed in this respect? From what I’ve read in the media over the past couple of years, WCBC have already undertaken a reduction in senior management and other staff reductions have been going on since 2010 so WCBC are ahead of FCC.

Mmmm…didn’t you paste it here? Regretting it already methinks!

Why cant they pay to park like the rest of us.

Unless they need to constantly use their cars for work purposes such as surveyors/inspectors/social workers, they should pay. I see the same cars there every day, and most are in the same space when I walk past at night.

Saying that, if my work offered me a free space i’d take it..

Although i agree with alunh that overall rates should be reduced to reflect current market conditions, there is no sign that Government are going to do this, ,so scheme 1 seems pretty reasonable in that it offers 50% reduction to tenants who take occupation of long term empty units for up to 12 months. Yes, i agree that this may see some sporadic occupation, but surely that’s better than no occupation and empty shop units!

My reading of this is that unlet units will still attract a 100% rate and this will only reduce to 50% when occupied so units that continue to be unlet will not have a new rate designation as alun suggests. I can see where alunh is coming from as potentially a near business neighbour could receive 50% when he has to pay 100% simply because he took occupation before the scheme started in october 13 but i guess the scheme had to have a start date and it depends on whether u are an existing or new business.

As for wcbc endorsing the scheme, as it is funded by government, i don’t see that they had a choice as not to do so would probably mean they were in the minority and would draw criticism for not being interested in attracting new business. It would also see potential businesses moving to neighbouring council areas to take advantage of the scheme.

MP’s should be pressurising the Government to go ahead with the rating revaluation which was supposed to happen in 2015 but has been postponed to 2017 as this would make a huge difference to rates payable.

Sadly this minority seem to be the ones who manage to stay working in the council for many years thanks to inept managers. These staff would not survive in a private company.

I could tell you a thing or two about the amount of money the council wastes from what I’ve seen and been asked to do.

I partly agree although i think that local councils have been forced to change in many respects and the so called wasters are, to the larger extent, not getting away with having an easy life and i certainly dont agree with the implication that this is unique to council staff.
I hate this whole public sector v private sector debate and having worked in both, albeit it some years ago, there is good and bad everywhere but of course public sector = public money so i understand main focus on public sector although it is still unfair to generalise.

I suppose the real measure will be demonstrated in years to come when more council services are outsourced privately. I suspect the focus then will be on profit and not service provision, and in some cases we may all long for the old days, no matter how many complaints we may have had.

But redundancy/pensions/easy life is why they work for the council. Everyone i know that works for councils talk about how little they do, when they moan about payrises and i ask them why don’t they leave the excuse is because of the pension

Hopefully these friends of yours will be weeded out in the seemingly endless money saving reviews we read about. I am sure there are plenty of wasters in councils just like there are in all large organisations, but its unfair to generalise based on the minority.
