jimbowParticipantNever mind Whittlesham or even Writtlesham, what about Wrexham. Are the authority ashamed of our town name. Most universities are named after the town they are located in, Liverpool, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge etc. At least you know where they are. Where on earth is Glyndwr? If you are not proud enough to use the town name, how about, Duttons Den, Pritchards Palace.
jimbowParticipantkaidee. A lot could depend on the size of the new stalls. Some market tenants have double or treble stalls. My concern is, who would you have to tell to, cut the size of their stall down. Some of these traders have been in the Peoples Market since it moved there. They obviously need their present space for their level of displayed stock. It is a well known fact in market trading the bigger the spread, the bigger the return.
jimbowParticipantAt the Scrutiny meeting on Wednesday both Cllr.Wynn and Cllr.Skelland made known their support of the Quarterbridge Report on the Markets. This report did not come to fruition and was changed (by people unknown, behind closed doors. In January 2015 the Lead Member gave notice of an addition of a HUB. The HUB would require the loss of 14 market stalls from 58 to 44.In July 2015 a further update reported that there would only be provision for 30 market stalls. In December 2015 now the plans are in the public domain, there are only provision for 20 market stalls. The total loss to the market of 38 stalls. It is my belief that 20 stalls will not provide the variety required to make the market viable.
jimbowParticipantLooking at the figures for the Markets that were put before Scrutiny on Wednesday. I am amazed at the decline, especially in the Peoples Market. WCBC could have done a lot better by, handing over the running of the markets to the Town Centre Forum. The ideas coming from the Town Centre Forum for the rest of the town seem to produce results.
jimbowParticipantDaave63, Is that the fence Councillor Rogers sits on ?
jimbowParticipantIt should have gone to Scrutiny yesterday but the Lead Member was unable to attend. What’s the betting it will not go to Scrutiny, but straight to the next Executive Board meeting, and from there straight to Planning. Suddenly there is an urgency about the project.
jimbowParticipantAlunh, Whilst I was in the Butchers Market the Council used their own electrician for changing bulbs, socket testing etc
jimbowParticipantBenjaminM, Whilst this thread was started about the cost of electrical work in the market. The thread was taken from a report on the general charges incurred by market tenants. I can assure you that having had a stall in the Butchers Market for 17 years, some of the charging for services have been horrendous. One year tenants received a bill for services of £93,000 which was on top of their rent.Tenants asked to scrutinise the charges and on so doing, had the bill reduced to £59,000. So you see that by Wrexham.com highlighting these charges it is of interest to some people.Maybe not you,in which case keep stum.
jimbowParticipantOriel Wrexham lost revenue status from the Arts Council of Wales in 2010. It has suffered in recent years from lack of investment. The BBC moved out and this has left the gallery creating a DEFICIT in the arts budget.
The Council are now requesting to use revenue from car parking in the Peoples Market, plus stall revenue from that market,to subsidise this new venture. According to the Council the Market has 50 stalls of which 41 are occupied, an occupation rate of 82% . The Council will not say how many stalls are being lost to the HUB. All this just for the sake of a Hub, which will require a Artistic Director, Senior Curator, Operating Manager, Marketing Officer and a Fundraising Officer, according to consultants. Money down the drain.
jimbowParticipantTraffic management to WCBC means, if the road layout works on a computer it will be ok.
