I would be surprised if all the elected councillors could understand the Council Accounts. For those that do not, they are being led by Chief Officers for explanations. At a scrutiny committee meeting I attended the Chief Financial Officer made the point that the Markets were subsidised bythe Council. This was completely untrue. If this sort of wrong information is given to Councillors by those in control, what chance have counsillors,to come up with the right decisions.

I do not have a problem with the paving in King Street BenjaminM,but to add to the point made by Alunh.I earned my living on a stall in the Butchers Market from 1992 until 2009.During those years the COUNCIL:-
1.Made High Street narrower, giving problems for buses, which eventually ended in all buses being withdrawn from High Street.
2.Closing the Car Park to build Eagles Meadow from which at that time the Butchers Market derived a lot of its footfall.Closed for three years.
3.Made a complete mess of RENTS charged.
4.Got rid of a reasonable Market Manager and transferred the running of the Markets to the Property Services Department of the Council.WHO DID NOT HAVE A CLUE.

All of this affected the footfall and is one reason that I believe that if you want anything to go wrong get WCBC involved.

Similar problems arise on the roundabout outside the groves on Chester road.If you are approaching the roundabout from Nightingale House the right hand lane is for traffic to exit into Grosvenor Road. The left hand lane is for traffic going left to the Asda Roundabout or continuing on straight into Wrexham Town Centre. So to continue straight on keep in the left hand lane.
Now when approaching from the opposite direction from the Town Centre, the left hand lane is for traffic going into Grosvenor Road, the right hand lane is for continuing straight across up Chester Road and also for turning right towards the Asda Roundabout. So for continuing in a straight line traffic from one direction is in the inside lane and from the oppisite direction it is in the outside lane. Both on the same roundabout. Please use the bus.

I think the answer to this is use Asda to shop at instead of Tesco. Problem solved

Excellent post of Wrexham. The Butchers and General Market get a mention but the Peoples Market seem to have not been seen.I hope WCBC take note of de ddwyrain’s comments, and act ASAP in the Peoples Market in trying to make this a contact with the rest of the town centre.

Reading the last post of Alunh, these Council officials are not paid peanuts, perhaps they should be.

The problem with Wrexham Markets is that the Council do not have a management. You cannot have one stallholder paying £20 per sq ft RENT whilst the stallholder next to them are paying £10 per sq ft RENT.It just does not make sense.

This is the rent situation in Wrexham Markets:-The stall rent is set when the tenant takes occupation of the stall.Thereafter the stall rent does not change from year to year. What does change every year is the Service Charge. Those tenants that have occupied the same stalls since say 2000 have therefore not seen an increase in Rent. However having said that in 2000 the Rents contained a Service Charge, this was to be taken out of the Rent and charged seperately as a Service Charge but unfortunately the Council made a complete mess of the Contracts. The Council charged the same Rent which contained Services and then charged for Services in a separate account. The Tenant was then paying for services twice,in the rent and in the service account. Those RENTS that included services were then used as the guide for future rents. The Council should have used a RENT figure that did not include services as the guideline. That is why RENTS to new tenants are so high and are not attracting any new stalls. In 2003 when this error took place Wrexham Council benefitted by £45,000 per year from the Butchers Market alone and in each year thereafter because of this cock up.The Council will still not meet with me to answer my questions on this mistake.

The general opinion on here is that this needs addressing. The problem is the Council who can make this happen, are not prepared to listen and follow any suggestions of merit that are put forward. They still follow the same old path, spending our money without thinking it through.Good public money thrown at the Peoples Market which has no proper footfall will be a disaster.
