Had heard rumours of a possible relocation, but no-one seems to know much about it. Good news if true.

According to the Sunday Times , Game stores are up for sale and they are in a precarious financial position . Yet another national chain under threat with a store in Wrexham.

Shares in Game more or less worthless today and no supplies of newly released games to the shops. Someone will step in and cherry pick the good bit of the business , but thousands of jobs on the line again! Every time so far, the Wrexham store of these big chains going bust has shut, thank goodness for the independent traders of Wrexham you are keeping the town alive.

From what I’ve heard even before today’s news Game in Wrexham was set for closure.

Clinton Cards look like another national chain set to close, unfortunately for Wrexham they have two shops in the town. Birthdays is also owned by Clinton Cards and they have a shop in town too. So the possibility of another three shops shutting in total. Thankfully another two shops are due to open in Eagles Meadow soon, but Hope Street is looking bare.

The amount of ‘To Let’ signs on Regent Street is worrying.

Looking back over this thread from last January the casualties this year are placed in small retail parks rather than on the high street ,Staples in the Border Retail Park, Comet in Mount Street and now Jessops on the Island Green. As big national chains continue to fail we here in Wrexham are lucky to have many small independents. Shop local if you can !

Wrexham remains very vulnerable to the various national trends because the rump of Independent shops are largely in the old town. It is this part of Wrexham that looks threadbare and the local Independents are all suffering as a consequence of the drift to Eagles Meadow of Multiple traders, Customers and Cash.

The main strategy that the Council has to embark upon is to try and connect or lock the town back together again. This will be difficult and complex

agreed. The strategy of the council for the last 20 years has been to increase the floor space for retailing not the retailing economy. It’s going to be very difficult indeed.

Double the rates of Eagles Meadow and the supermarkets and use it that extra half for encouraging independents. The likes of starbucks are only going to use the increase as an tax offset anyway.
