Wrexham Council has taken action against a takeaway owner after he failed to comply with food safety standards.

At Wrexham Magistrates court, Mr Imran Ashiq, the food business operator of Krazy About Pizza, King Street, Wrexham, pleaded guilty to 3 counts of failing to comply with food safety notices served on him by an officer from the Public Protection department of Wrexham Council.

Wrexham Council said “He failed to have in place a documented food safety management system. Staff working in the premises also failed to understand the basic principles of food hygiene and were not adequately supervised”

“In addition, the food business operator, responsible for the development and maintenance of the food safety management system, had not been trained and did not demonstrate an adequate understanding of the procedures necessary to maintain food safety.”

Mr. Ashiq was fined £450 plus costs, and the premises have now closed.

Cllr David Griffiths, Lead Member for Health said: “The message to food business operators is clear – maintain high standards of food hygiene or risk the consequences.

“Wrexham Council’s Public Protection department gives high priority to the safe and hygienic production of food and operates a rigorous enforcement policy to ensure full compliance of regulatory requirements. Despite repeated requests and warnings, Mr Ashiq failed to take action and maintain appropriate standards at the premises.

“In Wrexham we are determined to raise the standards of food hygiene across businesses. This prosecution demonstrates that failure to comply with food hygiene regulations is a serious matter and should serve as a warning to others.”
