A school in Wrexham has been closed today, with many parents unaware as to the reasons until a statement was published just after 1pm.

Parents told us that some pupils had arrived by taxi this morning and then sent home.

In a holding statement the school initially said at 12:30pm, “We completely understand everyone’s frustration. We are following all relevant Protocols. As soon as we are permitted to do so, we will be issuing a full Statement.”

Then in the full statement around an hour later the school said, “This morning we were made aware that a member of staff from the primary phase tested positive for Covid-19. This is currently an isolated incident and we are working closely with Public Health Wales and Wrexham Council to ensure that we are putting everything in place to keep everybody safe. The health and safety of our pupils and staff is paramount and we will always prioritise this in our decision making.”

“We will be in touch with you as soon as we have any further information. In the meantime, please contact us in the school office if you would like to discuss with your heads of phases. Thank you for your co-operation and patience during this difficult and unprecedented time. As a result, the school will continue to be closed tomorrow as a precautionary step and we will work to re-open on Wednesday 9 September.”

We contacted Wrexham Council this morning to get further detail, and will update as and when there is further information.

More shortly.
