Wrexham Council are looking to roll out a further 300 sensors across the city,.

Wrexham CBC say they wish to increase the use of digital sensors as part of the Smart Towns project and say funding has been secured for the purchase of around 300 sensors in the “immediate future”.

This procurement invites suitably qualified suppliers to submit a quote to supply these sensor at an estimated cost of between £40k and £50k. The resulting order will be a one off purchase for the sensors, which if like previous projects, will then be run across the county borough collecting data to inform both the public and private sector.

Previously there were indications all information collected is due to be released under the ‘Open Data’ principles.

The overall aim of such projects is to help towns – or cities like Wrexham – to use digital technology to support economic growth.

The Smart Town project recently came under the eye of a scrutiny committee, who looked at the recently rolled out mobile app, as well as phone charging benches.

Previous sensor use and installs included 8 Cisco Meraki footfall sensors have been supplied by Welsh Government with a 10 year licence and these have been installed from library carpark walkway, Lambpit Street, Queen Street, Hope Street (three locations), High Street and Chester Street.
