Plans to expand click and collect parking in town after positive response from shoppers
A click and collect service in Wrexham town centre could soon be expanded after a positive response from the public.
Over summer four spaces offering 30 minutes of free parking were created on the High Street, allowing shoppers to pick up any items that have been pre-ordered from traders.
At a meeting of the council’s employment and business scrutiny committee last week, it was confirmed that the local authority is looking at expanding the service.
Town centre manager, Amanda Davies said: “The four click and collect spaces have worked really well,
“They’re been used on a regular basis and 9 times out of 10, they are actually fully occupied, which is exactly what we wanted to do.
“One of the initial things was that we could actually expand this throughout different areas of the town.
“It is something that businesses would like particularly now because click and collect is much more important if you like, or more heavily utilised than it was prior to lockdown.”
Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, added that a review of click and collect is currently being undertaken and that the lead member for economic regeneration is looking to expand the service in different areas of the town.
The creation of such short term parking spaces for such a service has been raised over the years with some keen to get the town ready for ‘click and collect’ internet first sales well before the pandemic, however one of the more recent moves in 2016 was effectively knocked on the head by the then Town Centre Forum and taken no further.
