The A483 between Gresford Roundabout and Rossett has reopened both ways after what was described as a ‘police incident’.

UPDATE 1:03pm: North Wales Police have told us the incident involved no criminality and was regarding concern over the safety and welfare of a man. The individual involved is now safe, and police are thanking everyone for their patience.

To deal with the traffic some creative driving was required at times:

UPDATE 12:44pm: We are told by nearby eyewitnesses that the incident involved one man who was near to the Gresford Road that goes over the bypass. There are some local rumours that the incident involved groups of youths however this does not appear to be the case. There will be further issues as traffic returns to normal, with some HGV’s stuck on verges. Below pic of the roadblock by the Griffin Pub:

UPDATE 12:38pm: Police have just said the incident is ‘over’. More details soon.

UPDATE 12:32pm: North Wales Police have tweeted to say: “Delays due to Police incident. Please seek alternate route if possible. Thanks for patience. Police still managing scene, key focus for #NorthWalesPolice is everyone’s safety.”

UPDATE 12:27pm: Alison has just tweeted us this image of traffic on Hillock Lane in Gresford, where the traffic lights are adding to the queues as the near-total traffic off the A483 is being directed via the old road.

UPDATE 12:21pm: Google Maps screengrab of traffic across Wrexham at the moment – fair bit of Wrexham virtually at a standstill, however diversions are taking place across the area, which should hopefully get traffic flowing again shortly!

UPDATE: 12:14pm – Wrexham.com have been stuck in the traffic after making a trip through Gresford and Pandy. Traffic currently backed up around the Gresford Roundabout, with some lorries currently blocking the slip road to Chester.

Cars are also travelling the wrong way (directed by police) from Chester way onto the bypass and are being diverted off the Gresford Roundabout sliproad. Some cars have also been seen trying to turn around on the road to avoid the traffic undirected, causing further issues.

Traffic through Gresford is also blocked both ways – with those travelling through Pandy and on Plas Acton Road now also hit with standstill traffic.

UPDATE 11:38am: North Wales Police have tweeted to say: “Long delays at Gresford, Wrexham A483 please avoid the area, traffic is being directed off both carriageways”

ORIGINAL INFORMATION: Shortly before 11:30am this morning there were reports that traffic on the A483 near the Gresford Roundabout was at a standstill – with one person telling us that a police car was blocking traffic.

Further up the road those travelling from Chester into Wrexham have been diverted through Gresford, which traffic already backing up from the Red Lion in Marford.

After a short trip around the affected area we note the A483 is closed between Rossett / Gresford with some queues forming around Pandy.

Minor roads over the bypass between the two junctions are also closed off by police.

One person also told us that they had seen an ‘undercover police car’ head towards the bypass, while we saw multiple emergency vehicles nearby.

Traffic is at a standstill on the Gresford roundabout northbound with drivers stood out of their cars.
