Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire at the Kronospan factory in Chirk.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze at the factory in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident involves raw timber on the log yard.

Fire crews from Wrexham and Llangollen remain on site tackling the fire.

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Crews are working with staff on site and have created breaks in the fire.

“We expect to remain on site for some time as crews work to extinguish the fire.”

Residents in the Chirk and surrounding areas have reported seeing large plumes of smoke since yesterday morning.

This afternoon the fire service urged residents in the area to keep their windows and doors closed due to the forecasted change in wind direction.

We have contacted Kronospan and Natural Resources Wales and are awaiting further comment.
