Its not that long ago since I was on the buses. From my experience the reluctance of passengers to state their destination is quite rude, as, after all, it is the driver who has to take them there. A bus driver is in charge of a vehicle which in many cases is worth many hundreds of thousands of pounds, responsible for the safety of maybe 50+ passengers and yet is paid one of the lowest rates of pay in the community. Most of them do it for the love of the job and deserve much more respect than they presently receive.

Out in the countryside there may be some excuse for not stating your destination as it is usually obvious where the bus is going, but I have lost count of the number of times I have pointed passengers in the direction of the correct bus after boarding the wrong one at Wrexham Bus Station.

After seeing literally thousands of people boarding buses over the last few years, I have never seen anyone stating their destination when using a bus pass and never heard a single bus driver asking for the destination and as I said it is pointless anyway when you are not given a ticket.

I was on a bus the other week and an inspector got on and checked tickets for those who paid and just checked peoples bus passes who had them.

Not sure where you are coming from with your comment about respect and pay etc. for bus drivers, nothing to do with the topic as far as I can see.. :(

When I used to drive buses I always asked passengers for their destination. If I got the occasional passenger objecting to giving me the information I would point out that if I knew where they were going there was less chance of me missing their stop. Not all buses have loud bells, and if they refuse to tell the driver their destination that is the chance they take. If the pass is abused I think it is possible for the council to withdraw it.

Don’t know how long it is since you were on the buses, but these days no one with a pass says their destination and neither does any driver ask, and also a ticket is not issued by the driver on arriva at least, so it would be pointless stating and asking the destination..;)

I see that Broughton Retail Park are going to be getting a new M&S food alongside the new cinema and restaurant facilities. I can’t help but wonder what damage this is going to do to Wrexham? I already know of people from Wrexham who would sooner travel to the Vue at Cheshire Oak when they wish to go to the cinema rather than use the Odeon because they refuse to pay the extortionate parking fees at Eagles Meadow. I also know of people who do their weekly shop at Tesco Broughton because they find it easier to park there.

When this new development is complete I fear that not only will it attract people from the surrounding towns in Flintshire in Denbighsire who will choose to shop at Broughton rather than Wrexham, but also people from Wrexham itself.

Why should I go to Eagles Meadow and pay for the privilege to use their facilities, when I will soon be able to drive to Broughton, see a film and enjoy a nice meal without having to pay an arm and a leg to park there?

Could not have put the above any better, but as said on here before why can’t people in authority see what is staring them in the face, and why does no one do anything about it, or at least try

You can use it between all stations from Wrexham Central to Shotton, all bus services within Wales, and journeys in to England, as long as your journey starts or finishes in Wales. E.g. Wrexham to Chester, yes, Chester to Pulford, no.

But if you were to get off at Pulford and then get back on to Wrexham how would that be tracked ? because when using a pass you do not state the destination…

Without a total partnership of ALL stakeholders and thinking totally out side the box then unfortunately we are doomed to a town of emptiness and decay.
Can we not somehow find a dynamic leader to grasp these issues and convert rhetoric into reality-

I would imagine there are a whole host of prospective dynamic leaders lurking within the Wrexham Council offices just waiting for the call ;) or they could do as they usually do and take on a consultant..

Just another point, thousands upon thousands of Wrexham people regularly shop in Chester, not because they are affluent but because it is better laid out (as Wrexham once was) and is just an all round better experience..

A lot of people on here defend Wrexham Council for the demise of the town saying that it is not their fault, but the majority of born and bred Wrexham ites will have a different view… :(

What I can not understand is why is disabled parking free in most car parks, just because someone is disabled does not mean they can’t afford parking charges.

I would like to hear more from Joanne Rodgers, parking-services co-ordinator for Wrexham, and Wrexham Town Centre Manager Isobel Garner, exactly what they are doing at meetings to argue the case for more attractive short stay parking ie free, and cheaper long stay parking at council car parks.

I have never heard of the above individuals, but by their fancy titles, it seems they should have at least a view or say on the debacle of parking in general in Wrexham, it would nice for them to put their head above the parapet and at least make a comment, I am sure they read what is said on here ;););)

Now that they have dug all the soil away from the central reservation, I thought it was interesting that there was already a long right turn filter lane under the grass complete with road markings!

Maybe they are going to give this bit of road a wash and reuse it, hence the work now only taking 3 months ;)

Does anyone have any photos of what the junction used to look like before the current layout? Were there traffic lights there before?

There were never any traffic lights there.

For over two weeks now workmen have been laying new Tarmac to the pavements and driveways of Acton Gate and a very good job they are doing. Surely though priority should be given to repairing the main roads across the County Borough, many of which are in dire need of at least the pot holes being filled. Do they prioritise roads over pavements, or are there separate budgets for roads and pavements ?

You are correct with regards to priorities, but having lived in close proximity to Acton Gate all my life, I can never remember it being tarmaced before (which is a few years ;) ) in my life time, so I guess it was due ..:)

I walked down high street yesterday afternoon and didn’t notice anything. Unfortunately, people can only clean it up if they know it is there. Did you report it to the council so they could get it sorted?

You are right, but if you are around town at a certain time especially Sat and Sunday morning it is there every week and in vast amounts, also bottles, take aways you name it is there, very often right next to bins.

I was in town the other Saturday morning about 9 ish and the council must have been late on their early morning clean up round, what a mess, its the sign of the times unfortunately. :(
