What is the meaning of trolling, flaming & baiting. Truthfully I don’t know. I am not very well up on text talk & computer terminology. Getting old I guess.

This explains most of it quite well:

    BBC – h2g2 – Flaming and Trolling – A1082512

while baiting is basically posting a comment clearly intended to provoke an irrational response.

They are all pretty similar TBH and I suppose starting a forum where people were invited to openly fire questions at local councilors could attract the minority who find this kind of thing amusing, hopefully if this forum does go ahead this will not happen.

    Hope this helped :)

Would any councillors sign up to it? I suspect not as it would give them a public persona and our councillors seem to shy away from public confrontation. I can’t really blame them as, on occassions, some of the responses I read on here make me cringe..

If there was an issue specific to a certain councilors area and they decided not to publicly voice their opinion on that matter when residents had requested them to do so then as I asked earlier, what is the point of them? As for any comments deemed to be of a trolling, flaming or baiting nature I would personally find it totally acceptable for a councilor to choose to ignore them. I would like to think the vast majority of us would be capable of holding informative debates without having to resort to posting that kind of unhelpful rubbish or am I just being totally naive to think that is possible?

@wxm Good idea, even if such a forum was not live I think a dedicated forum on here where residents could raise local concerns for councilors to comment on would be better than what we currently have.

    @Wayne
I suspect that you are very probably correct, however I do not see why councilors should be allowed to simply dodge any issues residents may have. It is residents that elect their councilors, if councilors are simply going to side step any issues they may deem difficult to deal with then what exactly is the point of them?

I think setting up a forum for local concerns to be raised and for councilors to publicly state their views on them is a very good idea myself.

Whatever they do or don’t do now, the children that have been in these badly run schools for the last few years have been let down. Some of them may never catch up.

Our daughter went to a secondary school in the Wrexham area for 11 weeks before we pulled her out and ended up transferring her to one in Cheshire where she has done fantastically well and is now looking to progress to university. Within those 11 weeks we saw our bright, intelligent child reduced to a flat wreck. Maybe some kids can just dig in and get on with it?, sadly she could not. School support was appalling and following a series of incidents we felt we were left with no other choice than to get her out of there. I’m not going to name this school as I believe things have improved since then but for our daughter pulling her out of there was the single best decision we ever made, which to this day we feel we shouldn’t have had to do.

Right, I’m not at all up to speed on this matter (regarding other community centre’s in the Wrexham area) so apologies in advance if this is a blatantly stupid question.

Just read this in the archives (and it seems to be a fairly recent item):

£800k Acton Community Centre Refurb Underway | Wrexham.com

I presume that the Acton centre must be very well supported to warrant a redevelopment programme of £800,000!!! Marford is also very well supported and would appear requiring a mere fraction of that cost to sort out and yet somehow it got earmarked for closure? There would appear to be a something of an inconsistency here.

    ….or am I missing something?

I’m glad Tracey came on here to clarify things, I did try to paint the picture best I could but was not armed with the full facts (only what certain residents had informed me). I totally agree Marford is a great place to live with a close community, the ‘snob’ tag sometimes attached to the area is unfounded IMHO. Anyway, her group did a fantastic job of making residents aware of this proposal and the huge number of letters they managed to collect in a very short period of time showed just how unpopular it was with the vast majority of us.

Furthermore, when has caring for your community & environment become a crime?

Perhaps if that were to become a crime there would be some justification for building somewhere to house the offenders! :D

Agree with most of the comments on here, if residents do not believe a development is right for their community then they have every right to voice that opinion. Don’t see why that makes them ”NIMBY’s” (hate that stupid phrase).

There were certain people who did a stellar job of getting this out to the residents of Marford (I had nothing to do with it BTW) and should be applauded for their work in my view. The general reaction to this proposal among Marford residents was very negative, hence the number of us which decided to voice our objection to it. This is brilliant news, as Rob stated in his post I believe that there is a possibility that certain centres may end up being bought/run by the communities or maybe local councils could be given a more active role in the day to day running of some of these centres. If that means local fund raising would be required to help pay for things like maintenance work then I would imagine that could be a realistic option (in our case anyway).

Meeting sounds like it was a bit of a shambles…not sure what’s gone on there?

Interesting that the Rofft School, Church Hall on Chester Road and facilities in Gresford are deemed ‘not suitable’. Plenty of space in them and how a school be deemed not suitable for childcare?!

Apparently (I am only going by what I have been told) Rofft school does not have the capacity to take the additional number of pre-school children currently catered for by the playgroup. There is also an issue with parking, Wynnstay Lane is already rammed at peak times without introducing further traffic. If the council were to build some kind of building extension and introduce additional car parking facilities then I would imagine that could work. Some of the activities probably could be relocated elsewhere but should the centre close others currently have nowhere to go. Why should the residents of Marford just accept that the centre should be closed and sold off?

How can you be so sure that any action groups/campaigns etc. will always be voicing the concerns of the minority? Perhaps residents wishing to support proposals such as those you mentioned should consider running pro campaigns to highlight any benefits they may have?
