Born AcornParticipantI’m never against these things; as wrexview says, this is grant money. It was bound to be spent somewhere on a similar project (or worse, sometimes they can do some really pointless things under the banner of regeneration).
Unfortunately I only imagine a re-paving of the pavement and replacing of the kerbs there to match the bus station, with new street furniture to replace the old.
What King street really needs is the old building knocking down and replacing with a new design (though this would cause issues for tennants while the works take place) or cladding with modern materials.
It’s right next to Yale College. The right businesses (not more solictors and estate agents) could make a mint there.
Born AcornParticipantI think they scour the site for newts, move them to somewhere new, and then put up newt proof fencing so others can’t get in. Think of a normal fence but the bottom third is a thick plastic sheeting (a bit thicker than the council’s blue recycling bags).
I think some of the buildings there may date to the ROF or the Celanese works when the place was “Wrexham Trading Estate”.
Born AcornParticipantJust wondering if anyway had seen the three aerial photos from 1973 on the council’s website?
Born AcornParticipantLikewise – The visual impact of the plant itself should be low as it is right across the road from the Kellogg’s factory. The power route they’ll have to build will probably follow the existing route. There’s an image of a similar plant on page 3 of this document.
Born AcornParticipantThe whole area is sand, it’s all they could do to compress it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it has already began to sink, with the heavy rain.
Born AcornParticipantHas anyone mentioned the internet? I’d say that was a major factor for reduced footfall in most population centres in the run to to the economic crisis; which just ensured the closure of many businesses.
Game/Gamestations are an example; with games now downloadable online through Steam, XBox Live or PSN, it can be quicker and cheaper to purchase and download than go into town!
Other goods must still be delivered, but with more shops lowering their “free delivery over X” prices, and some even going free delivery for everything, will town centres even be a thing in 20 years?

The hours I’ve spent on there. What surprises me is the no pedestrianisation!
Born AcornParticipantI’ve seen them doing road verges and the busier areas. Though I’ve noticed with this recent rain the grass has been growing faster.

One for me is the roundabout at Rhostyllen Jct3 on the 483 by the little chef.
I come down the slip road from chester everyday in the right lane to take the 3rd exit up to Johnstown. As you get onto the roundabout there is regularly someone joins from Rhostyllen without giving way to me from the right. they think as its a large roundabout and you’re in the right lane it’ll be ok to keep to the left of you, which then causes a problem as you cross to the left to leave the roundabout. It must be the only roundabout where giving way to traffic from the right does not apply.:rolleyes:One thing that irks me is that the Rhostyllen road here does not join the roundabout at the right angle. I always find myself having to excessively turn when getting on the roundabout coming from Rhostyllen, especially when in the right lane!
Born AcornParticipantBest advice:
Not Council or Police – Do not pay; ignore the letters. It usually goes as far as an “intent to prosecute” letter but no further. Search the internet for laughs; one man even replied with a similar letter saying that by taking photos of his car the parking company had automatically agreed to a contract and he invoiced them for the same amount they had done him!
Council or Police – Pay! These have statutory powers and can definitely get the money from you!
On another subject, if supermarkets were so concerned about parking they’d operate their car parks more like NCP’s in which you need a ticket to leave (to activate the barrier). You get a ticket while entering, and you hand your ticket to the cashier at the supermarket while buying things, and that validates the parking. Still free, just more secure; it would cut down on the cheapskates going into town. -
