Work converting the site of a former chapel in Wrexham town centre into modern apartments is set to begin soon.

In April 2016 planning permission was granted to use the Capel Ebeneser site, located on Chester Road near Bodhyfryd, to develop 23 new two bedroom flats built across five storeys.

Ten months later Wrexham Council announced that the site was to receive a share of a £500,000 ‘development loan’ via a Welsh Government-backed scheme.

The chapel was demolished in March 2017, however building work on the site has yet to begin.

Cllr Terry Evans, lead member for economic performance and regeneration, said: “Scaffolding has come down on Pen Y Bryn, and much of the construction work is now being finalised – including the completion of groundworks such as drainage and tarmac, and the installation of some flooring, kitchens and bathrooms.

“Once work has been completed at Pen y Bryn, work at Capel Ebeneser can begin in earnest – although some preparation work has already taken place on the Capel Ebeneser site.

“An official opening of the new Pen Y Bryn site, Bridewell Court, will be arranged and announced at a later date.”
