Can someone shed any light on the ‘enormous economic advantages’ that Cllr Neil Rogers says this prison will being to the area ?

And the next bit isn’t even funny – ‘it would also be of significant benefit to prisoners who come from the surrounding area who will be able to see family and friends more often’. Great, as long as the prisoners are happy it doesn’t matter what the local residents think.

Shouldn’t someone from the council start asking why the roadworks are going on for so long though ? It’s not as if the A483 is a small backroad that doesn’t have much traffic.

I’ve been through them a couple of times today and they don’t look anywhere near finished. So glad I don’t need to use the A483 to get to work, feel sorry for anyone who does.

I think the current bad weather has also highlighted how ridiculous it is to carry out so much roadwork, especially on the scale of the A483 job, at this time of year.

Come on WCBC, there must be someone within the highways/planning dept with an ounce of common sense, try using it.

There is a wide and usable cycle lane going through Rhosddu to the other side of Llay. It is on the pavement away from the traffic on the road and is clearly sign posted. Some use it and others still insist on using the road. Can’t please everyone it seems!

I drive down this road several times a day and the reason some cyclists use the road is because the pavement (cycle lane) gets covered in crap from the trees. The road sweeper cleans the roads but not the pavements.

It’s OK for me because I have a mountain bike but there’s no way I would use the cycle lane on a road bike. On some occasions there have been small branches that have fallen down so it would be quite dangerous on some bikes, especially out of daylight hours.

Council and common sense do not normally get mentioned in the same sentence………

I think everyone appreciates that cut backs are necessary to a certain extent but I believe it is very much overplayed, it’s become a standard line now to try and justify any services that are reduced.

When you see some of the money thrown around by the council (Stansty one-way trial, iPads for councillors) you really start to wonder what sort of system they have for prioritising their spending.

The obvious way of making reductions to spending is by starting with the highest expenditure. I can’t believe the cost of Kerbcraft is very high up on that list.

I was told after spending all that money on the refurbishment, it was not approved because they have used concrete capping stones instead of sandstone. Also there should be less metal hand rails with the sandstone being higher. When the bridge was assessed to see if it could take the additional weight it was found serious structural flaws. (The bridge has listed status)

There are now signs stating bridge weak point which is why they are keeping it to single file traffic. I was told to resolve it will mean a complete rebuild obviously this means long term road closures. Know idea when or if the remedial work will be undertaken or if they will install permanent traffic lights.

Well if that’s true (not doubting you by the way), it makes the farce even more farcical. The job must have been specced up so how can it go so badly wrong ? Surely even Wxm Council can’t consider permanent lights on such a main route into the town centre.

It reminds me slightly of a couple of years back when they had to redo all the tarmac on the A483 (by Ruabon). I’m sure I read somewhere that the tarmac mix was not right the first time they did it.

Perhaps a FOI is required to find out the answer (to the bridge situation) ?

Why can’t roads be done over night when they are empty?

Far too sensible for Wxm Council, wouldn’t cause anywhere near enough chaos on the roads.

I’ve been along the A483 today, to and from Oswestry. Not surprising really but there’s not a workman in sight. Why isn’t road improvement work done 7 days a week ? The big jobs would get done so much quicker.

Also, why not do more work during April – October, with longer daylight hours ? Not rocket science is it ?
