I would suggest you do go to the cats protection. There are many cats needing homes and they do excellent work there.

They do wonderful work there, agreed. Trouble is, they’re cats and we’re looking for a kitten. I did have a look on there if they had anything young but they’re either outdoor cats or not suitable around children

If the council consult residents in this, would they not need to consult in everything else?

The worst thing the council ever did was put in speed bumps and the likes. As far as I can tell, the very people they were designed to slow down, are still going just as fast.

And lets be fair, this is the same council that put traffic calming measures on Park Avenue the other end of the road to the school

Sorry, but if anyone’s stupid enough to fall for this, or any other scam, they deserve to lose thier money.

That’s a tad generalised and a wee bit condesending.

What about vulnerable people who get these letters and phone calls? Just because you know it’s a scam doesn’t mean the rest of the planet does.

Not everyone can complete their shopping in 2 hours. Tesco’s raised their parking limit from 2 hours to 3 hours some years ago after protests from disabled shoppers. The signs were updated with a bodged sticker covering the 2 to 3. I’m not sure how they look now?

My father in law is a blue badge holder and recently got a ticket in Gobowen Hospital while he was attending an appointment. He was unable to find a disabled bay so parked on double yellows. This is allowed for badge holders- provided they are not causing a obstruction. He was given a ticket by another private company. He paid it before telling us or I would have advised him to bin it.

Aren’t double yellows no parking for anyone at all? Surely the highway code says you can’t park on double yellow lines and there isn’t any places really around Gobowen Hospital where you can park that isn’t an obstruction on double yellows. I’ve been going there for 27 years and my mum has never had an issue parking, not even in the disabled bays.

I seriously doubt supermarkets lose business because people can’t park. I’ve never gone to one and had to leave because there are no spaces. I have had to drive around Tescos a couple of times at Xmas time because of trying to get too close to the store though. The only solution as suggested before is to have a barrier and your ticket gets validated in store.
The other thing is supermarkets like people parking and going into town as the majority of them pop into the supermarket on their way back to the car to pick up a few things, something they wouldn’t do if they’d parked in town.

A disabled person won’t park the other end of the car park, they’ll go somewhere else. I don’t even go to tesco by car after 3pm, cant get out again. Asda in Warrington have this barrier system. Doesn’t make a blind bit of difference.

I wouldn’t be popping into tesco for a few things on the way back from town when there are places in town that sell the stuff cheaper anyway.

Supermarket car parks are for supermarkets. There are plenty of other car parks

I wonder why the emphasis is on the residents to recycle? We have boxes and bags to separate all our waste, which I assume most of us actually do, yet shops and businesses don’t seem to have the same rules and regulations. Why are they not separating their waste and recycling more? Maybe supermarkets do over package, but they shove everything into one bin as well. They should be doing their bit.

I used to work in a local supermarket and the only waste that went separate was food, because they used to sell it to farmers for pig food.

This evening we were doing some polish related tweets due to the Euros when we had a tweet in saying we ‘made a mistake’ by doing so.

    on @wrexham we said:
“Wrexham has a rich history with Poland so are you supporting them tonight in the Euros? We are twined with Racibórz in Poland …… plus many Free Polish armed forces who had been injured in World War 2 received treatment at Penley Polish Hospital!”

After asking if we were right to tweet about it we had a mix of replies:

most Polish folk that came to Wrexham worked hard! If only some of the locals had the same mindset the town would be better for it.

I had a polish neighbour that wanted a 3 bedroom house for free and told me to get it he would get his wife pregnant! …and he did get a nice house for nothing in a nice area!!!! … Not like me but it happened :-(

How dare they come over here and actually work! And no they don’t take all the houses. Myth.

There are plenty of houses in Wrexham! you’ve just gotta work for them and not expect one given too you.

I also know local Welsh people that have done that. Most Polish people over here have jobs and work hard

I work with a lot of polish people. Full time day jobs, agency night jobs. How is that fair? Taking jobs away from us.

    and

Polish are ace! Was out drinking with polish people last weekend, a right laff! Great people.

couldn’t care less about the polish, if they respect us there is no problem, its the ” we are polish we do what we want” that sucks

What is your view on this?

My view is that I am disgusted with the racism against Polish people. I hate the fact that there are some people in this world who think anyone who ISN’T from this country must be on the take. I dare those people to take a walk down the job centre and see how many locals are there with a spliff in one hand, a can of cider in the other, and their giro in the back pocket. There are plenty of locals who get it all and it pisses me off that immigrants in this country get the backlash for everything

    Interesting stuff.

I’ve got a couple of points to make, but I thought I would throw in some stuff about the Monday/beast market – just my opinion and for debate!

I don’t think any markert like that can really prosper and adds little to improve footfall in towns. In the days that the old eagles meadow market was heaving the key things sold were tin/packet food, household/cleaning stuff and clothes. For better or worse all these were hit by supermarkers stocking more varied stuff and discounting hard and high street shops like savers/wilkinson covering household/diy et al at “market prices” everyday. Primark et al has killed market clothes. Even in the last years of eagles meadow the market was much, much quieter than years ago.

Walking past the monday stores recently there was not many people looking – what is everyone else’s experience?

What can work is more “specialist” markets if you like, think farmers (though they have their issues) which I think Wrexham has got/tried? Could be an idea to try and diversify the monday market a bit? Maybe more pitches could work. Anyone other types of market, in Cardiff a traveling German market was always popular!

Wrexham needs to make more of the indoor markets – these are good for niche stalls and good food stuff etc. Its being talked about in other topics but sad to see empty pitches in all three. This IS an area where council own the freehold (I think!) so more rent control possible….

I always find the market busy, and spent most of my 30 minute lunch break just trying to get to and from wherever I go for my lunch. It’s why i gave up and reclined to over priced sarnies in the Co-Op. The fruit and veg stalls always seem to be really busy but that’s pretty much it. Everyone else is always just looking, only ever buying off the fruit and veg, and to be honest, i don’t buy off there anymore cuz it’s crap lol.

But I do agree with more specialised markets. Maybe even like “car boot sales” in town on say a Saturday or something. Maybe this would push out the shops but it would probably big foot traffic into town.

A German market would be good, which would mean my fella wouldn’t have to go all the way to Birmingham for it lol. I think they have tried a butchers market previously, I always thought it was pretty good but doesn’t seem to be making a come back. And the continental market, I loved

A B and Q warehouse is what i’d like. DIY stores in town are shockingly basic and B and Q is especially in need of a refurb. Everytime I go in I think the automatic door is going to fall off!

You don’t know how many times the staff have been caught on that door lol. But the warehouses don’t stock much more than the “basic” ones. But Wrexham has 3 major DIY stores, more than enough i think
