wxmParticipantThe great thing is that this is in the public domain. Scores of people have experienced the very same as Alunh; and then turning to “markets” – the model is wrong.

there must be scope for some sort of joint website were a customer can buy all the goods from the market in one place and a pay a small delivery charge and get their purchase delivered.August 20, 2013 at 12:27 pm #64230

shresburyAn interesting exercise that may or may not show Wrexham to be cheaper or dearer. Even more of an interesting exercise (as Jimbow mentioned) would be to compare (say) the square foot charges of one Market stall/shop with another, one Market with another and all with (say) private sector shops for rent.
Additionally, one would have to factor in other detail like perceived levels of competition, footflow, etc

In a way, you would expect this to be undertaken by the Market traders. In Chester, they have got as far as organising a website and the Butcher’s Market traders have some online presence. Unfortunately, the Market traders are not well organised and attempts to get them to be have not worked well. There is a NMTF but this has only had limited success and penetration. You may well argue that the Traders, therefore deserve little sympathy if they will not work productively together. I take a slightly different line. The Market is more than about Traders, it is about Tourism, about Heritage, about future opportunity, about providing a necessary Retail variety within the community that services niche demands, etc
Because of these reasons (and others), if I was the Market manager, I would try to earn my crust and undertake this on behalf of the greater good. There are some fantastic IT specialists working for Wrexham Council, there is a huge Economic Development Department. If Economic Development is what it claims to be, go on…..develop. If I was the Market manager, I would be thinking of all the multi-varied ways that I could make Wrexham Markets cutting edge, vibrant and ahead of the rest

AlunhParticipantI gather that there have been some subtle changes in the management structure of the Markets. If this is so, I hope that Amanda can turn it around

wxmParticipantIt sounds as if a commitment from highest level decision making are needed. It sounds as if policy decisions on rents, service charges, use, and the key subject these days of “influencing consumer culture & behaviour” are needed.
A robust common sense approach is needed to give the right “product” to the “consumer” who will “buy into” what’s on offer, and return time after time, and spend cash.
