MP1953ParticipantWrexham like many other small market towns is simply still charging too much to do business – regardless of how the money is collected and distributed. The council itself must change their view that town centre retailing is a cash cow.
Exactly…. Moving slightly off subject, how does Mold continue to attract good stall holders and therefore plenty of people visiting their Wednesday and Saturday markets which benefit the whole town ? compared to Wrexham’s Monday market now, which is shrinking before your eyes.
Is it the car parking 50p in Mold £2 in Wrexham, is it how much Mold charge the stall holders compared to Wrexham something must be wrong in Wrexham somewhere, if there were still a decent Monday market in Wrexham people would still flock to it and would benefit the whole town.
MP1953Participant
Bin men are the worst offenders for litter but free from fines as its “part of the job” to dump a little litter on the street to annoy residents. As for litter fines in general it would be best to begin with Wrexham town centre and its filthy urine smelling shop door-ways and streets–no wonder half the shops are abandoned to the drunken rats of the night. I hear the town is now taking care of drunks in our much needed public toilets and getting them taxis home–great,, close the toilets and let them use the shop door ways to urinate. What planning,, well done Wrexham for spending our money so splendidly and efficiently. Instead of taking care of these people get the police whose wages we pay to try using the cells and issuing some eye watering fines via the magistrates. To be fair the council try hard to keep the town and surrounding areas in good order but fail to bring down the hammer on the riff raff and those with no respect for property and our town. Bring back deportation to Australia. Feel better for that.

It’s not just me then that thinks it was a disgrace about the closing of public toilets and then re-done up for people who drink to much.

So now what was a beautiful market was knocked down for a whole street of empty shops :( you couldn’t make it up..
You’ve lost me there MP. I am not sure how you can even remotely arrive at the conclusion that because the market was demolished in 1992, it is somehow responsible for commercial decisions taken 24 years later.
It is just like saying that because St. Mark’s church was demolished, that decision is responsible for the recent closure of the NCP car park.
I don’t think things actually work like that.

Unfortunately, that is the reality though Benjamin as to what has happened, whichever way you look at it, whosever fault it is or whoever has made all the bad decisions over the years.

MP1953Participant
If it wasn’t for this website publicising the Council’s plans to all, they’d have got away with tearing this building down.
In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the council gets away with a lot less since Rob set this place up.
Credit where credit’s due.

Definitely well done, I would imagine that Councillors and council officials religiously look at this site and as they look through it wonder what is going to come up next and cringe at some of the topics.
MP1953Participant
I thought like Dave when they brought the penalty in for litter and dog poo. Make more money to waste on un essentials. The day it started apparently they were outside supermarkets and made a killing on litter.
I know it sounds trivial, dropping a piece of paper or a cigarette butt, but when you look around there is litter everywhere despite bins being ready available half the time, people just throw anything through car windows, and something needs to be done, I have never knowingly dropped a piece of litter in my life, I know I am a Saint before anyone comments :)
MP1953Participant
Personally, as a responsible dog owner, I feel that irresponsible cat owners should also be pursued. Why do people need to have more than 2 cats. I am sick & tired of picking up cat muck off my front lawn when I don’t own one.
Good luck with pursuing cat owners :)

There used to be a Polish deli on Yorke street in the 60’s. Can’t understand why people wouldn’t use a Polish shop, lovely cured meats!
As for the rumours about the Hightown Portuguese café not serving not Portuguese customers. Pure racist cobblers.
Support your local shopkeepers.Quite right, this nonsense is put about by people who have nothing better to do than try to stir up trouble. Would make zero sense for them to turn down money and business from anyone.
My original question/point was do other people apart from Poles frequent Polish shops, I do not and I don’t know anyone that does, no prejudice no agenda, no racism ! I just don’t so can I ask do the contributors to this thread shop in them?
MP1953ParticipantIt seems that volunteers are needed to keep Wrexham bus station clean, according to my wife it was ankle deep in rubbish this morning, there’s a good advert for anyone coming into Wrexham as a visitor.
