Proposals to move a key post office in Wrexham will be a further blow to Wrexham Town Centre, the town’s MP has warned.

Earlier this week Wrexham.com reported that the Post Office were considering relocating their branch on Henblas Street to upstairs in WH Smith on Hope Street.

A six-week consultation has opened on the plans, and Wrexham MP Ian Lucas is urging people to make their views known.

He will be making clear to the Post Office that he opposes the plans – and that the proposals will have a major impact on a retail area in the town.

Speaking about the consultation Mr Lucas said: “I have grave concerns about these proposals. The current location of the Henblas Street store helps provide a focus and footfall for that part of the town centre, and I am worried about the impact the loss of the post office at that site will have. They will also make the Post Office less accessible for disabled people.

“These changes are part of a wider Post Office programme – backed by the Conservative Government in Westminster. I do not think they are the right thing for the town –indeed, I think they will be a further blow to the town centre.

“I will be raising them with local businesses and, of course, I will make my views known to the Post Office as part of the consultation.

“I would urge anyone who has views on these proposals to take part in the consultation too.”

Anyone who wants to take part can do so by going to www.postofficeviews.co.uk/liveconsultation.php and entering the code 02961499
