Your Chance to Take Part in Wrexham’s Tour of Britain Celebrations!

The Tour of Britain’s arrival in Wrexham Town Centre is quickly approaching and to mark the special occasion visitors to the town will have the chance to take part in some unique cycling celebrations.

As part of the celebrations for the Aviva Tour of Britain, which completes the final leg of day one in Wrexham on Sunday 6th September, visitors to the town centre are invited to take part in a whole host of fun filled activities.

Spin Off

Between 10am and 4pm on Sunday a special ‘Spin Off’ event will be taking place on Llwyn Isaf outside the Guildhall. Throughout the day there were will be a variety of community, charity, commercial and cycle-related stalls – along with a whole host of activities to get you in the Tour of Britain mood.

Dandy Amble

It’s an opportunity to get dressed up in your best tweed or glad rags of your choice, get on your bike and join in the Aviva Tour of Britain celebrations. The Amble takes place on the final straight of the actual race itself. There’s already some penny farthings lined up from Mr Phoebus Penny Farthing Events who will be joining in on the day.

The Dandy Amble will take place on Chester Street at 11.20 am and those wishing to take part should contact Oriel Wrecsam Learning and Engagement Officer Jo Marsh: [email protected] / 01978 292093 to book. Alternatively just turn up on the day – assembly will be on Llwyn Isaf Green from 10.30 am.

In preparation for the event, Oriel Wrecsam will be holding a free drop-in workshop on Saturday 5 September between 11.00 am and 4.00 pm at their workshop space, 12 Chester Street. All ages are welcome to come and make a ‘Dandy Moustache’ or a Floral Corsage. For more information contact Jo Marsh at the email address / phone number above.

The Kids’ ‘ Go  Ride’ 

Between 12.00 – 1.30 p.m you can have the watch the young riders event on Chester  Street – a children’s time trial cycle competition against the neighbouring counties. Then at 1.30 p.m. – 2.00 p.m. – there will presentation of the young riders prizes on the Tour  of Britain podium – a must event for all the budding young Sir Bradley Wiggins out there!

Speaking about the Tour of Britain and the host of activities on the day for visitors to enjoy, Cllr Neil Rogers, Lead Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “The Aviva Tour of Britain is the UK’s largest cycle race and Wrexham are proud to be hosting it on 6th September. The Dandy Amble is an opportunity for visitors to the town centre to get involved and enjoy what promises to be a very exciting event.”

There will be lots of  food and drink venues open in the town centre, as well as at the Spin Off event at Llwyn Isaf, so come along and enjoy a day in Wrexham cheering on the riders.
