Further free car parking in and around Wrexham Town Centre has been announced for this weekend’s Tour of Britain celebrations.

Wrexham Council has announced more free car-parking locations for the Tour of Britain, which will be riding into town on Sunday, September 6th.

The car park at the council’s Housing Services Offices on Ruthin Road (LL13 7TU) will provide an extra 110 spaces on the day – free of charge – from 10am until 6pm.

The People’s Market multi-storey car park – which is usually closed on Sundays – will also be open from 8am until 7pm, providing 326 standard and nine disabled parking spaces.

And free car-parking will also be available at Whitegate Industrial Estate, off Whitegate Road (LL13 8UG), from 10 until 6pm.

Councillor David A Bithell, lead member for Environment and Transport, added: “The Tour of Britain provides us with a great opportunity to showcase our town.

“The council are supporting the day and decided to offer free parking which we hope will encourage more people can attend Wrexham and the race and support events taking place throughout the day.”

Previously the free parking days for 2015 had been set in stone and not subject to change to avoid continual reviews of the town’s parking by Councillors. There is no indication if the previously reported 78% of car parking capacity run by the private sector will join in with the special offering for this event, or others.

Wrexham will play host to the final stage of the first day of this year’s Tour of Britain, with an estimated 10,000 spectators expected to descend on the town centre to celebrate the event.

Free car parking will only be available all day at Crescent Road, Market Street, St George’s Crescent and St Giles. Disabled parking will also be available at Coleg Cambria.

Parking at the Guildhall, Library, Crown Buildings and the majority of Waterworld car park will all closed for the event – however there will be limited spaces at Waterworld and there will be access to the area via Holt Street.

The Library, Guildhall, Crown Buildings and Waterworld car parks will not be open, as they will be supporting events related to the Tour of Britain.
