A petition calling for the immediate repair or replacement of a faulty mobile phone mast in Wrexham town centre has been launched online.

The petition, which has been started by Philip Osborne is addressed to Executives / Head Office of 02, Three, EE and Vodafone. So far the petition has 118 signatures – with 30 people signing within the first six hours of the petition being live.

Within the petition it is stated: “For a period of more than 12 months now residents of Wrexham have had no access to 3G networks in the town centre despite repeated complaints and numerous empty promises from all the mobile phone networks to fix the problem.

“When in the town centre area of Wrexham, mobile phones on EE, Orange, T-mobile, Three, Vodafone and O2 networks indicate that they have a full and strong 3G signal. However, any attempt to access the network using the internet browser or internet-enabled apps entirely fail. This is not a sporadic problem, it is consistent to all phones, on all networks, at all times and has remained so for more than 12 months.”

Details are then provided on the various responses that have been given by networks, slight progress and finally a section called ‘Broken Promises’.

Over the past few months the mobile signal issues in Wrexham have been well documented, with Wrexham.com alone writing five articles on the subject since May.These can be viewed chronologically here, here, here, here and here.

A 21 page forum thread that has been viewed 14,580 has also been on our website since April 2014.

Earlier this summer Local MP Ian Lucas took to Twitter requesting that anyone experiencing issues with 3G on the EE network to contact him. Shortly afterwards Mr Lucas met with EE representatives to highlight the concerns and to press the company for action.

However there appear to be ongoing issues with mobile coverage across several networks in Wrexham, particularly in the town centre.

Last week Mr Osborne posted on the Wrexham.com forums saying he has had a response from 02, who say they are ‘investigating additional options to further enhance the service for a greater customer experience in the area’. The response can be found on page 21 of the forum thread.

Since then a representative from Three has commented on the petition stating they will ‘review each case on an individual basis’.

You can find and sign the petition here. You can also view our full forum thread here
