Wrexham’s foodbank has launched a new budgeting and debt advice project.

CMA Connect Wrexham aims to help individuals become debt free whilst working towards financial stability.

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to negatively impact on jobs and incomes for individuals and families, the foodbank has already seen a 13% increase in demand for food parcels in recent months

A spokesperson for Wrexham Foodbank, said” Living on reduced wages on Furlough schemes or having to manage on Universal Credit has become a new and unwanted reality as mortgage bills, energy bills and food bills mount up.

“Particularly as we run up to Christmas this will bring anxiety and stress for parents trying to bring some needed festive cheer to their families.

“The Foodbank has already seen a 13% increase in demand for food parcels in recent months and our umbrella organisation The Trussell Trust is keen that we look beyond the parcel and try to reduce the need for support.

“Helping to budget and balance the finances and where necessary manage debt is clearly one way that people may benefit and relieve some of the headaches. We are therefore starting up a new service; CMA Connect Wrexham.

“Community Money Advice (CMA) is a national charity committed to, and with a passion to, help people overcome their money problems by providing free, local, face to face money advice services.

“They have recently established a new service called Connect and Wrexham Foodbank is setting up a CMA Connect service in the town.

“Here in Wrexham the team of fully trained Money Mentors can access advice specific to each individual’s needs and give as much time and support as required.

“The aim is to help folk become debt free whilst working towards financial stability. The process will include budgeting and money management skills to bring control to people’s finances and moving forward to a future that is debt free.”
