A bar owner has been thanked for his generosity after stepping in to help a group of young adults with learning disabilities.

Members of the 30-strong group have been holding their weekly Friday night meetings at Chicago Rock for years.

The recent closure of that venue left them with nowhere to meet, leading to concerns amongst support workers that the group would be forced to disband.

Fortunately when Aled Owens, manager of Yales Cafe Bar on Hill Street in the town centre, heard about the group’s plight he decided to do something to help.

Aled offered to open the bar three hours early every Friday evening so members of the group could meet there and have the place to themselves – an offer that was gratefully accepted!

Lynsey Higgins, a support worker with the group, said: “We can’t thank Aled enough for this kind gesture.

“The Friday night meetings are the highlight of the week for many of the people in the group, and the thought that they would no longer happen was very disappointing.

“It’s such a relief to know that they will still be able to meet up, so we are delighted that the meetings can continue.”

Aled said: “I’m just happy to be able to help. I hope the group will be meeting at Yales for many years to come!”

Friday night meetings start 7pm till 10pm, new are faces apparently very welcome!
