Wrexham’s 3G Issues Continue (Will We Ever Have Reliable Coverage?)

Wrexham’s ongoing battle with mobile coverage and 3G issues across the area have continued, with issues in the area appearing to worsen.

The town’s problems with mobile coverage have been well documented, with the issue first being recorded in May 2014. Many networks seem to suffer the problem, however in the past nine months, we have received hundreds of tweets documenting the issues with EE masts.

Since last year petition has been launched, many users (particularly of EE) have complained or cancelled their contracts and questions have even been posed in Parliament by MP Ian Lucas.

Over the weekend we had a couple of people get in touch to say that they had managed to get 4G in some parts of Wrexham. However at the same time, many mobile users in Wrexham saw the return of coverage issues – with some struggling to connect to 3G.

Problems with mobile coverage in Wrexham were first early in 2014. While the issues were resolved briefly last year, in the past few weeks users of EE have been left frustrated with the return of ‘poor’ coverage in the area.

We spoke to EE on Friday who told Wrexham.com that the issues past couple of days was due to an ‘outage’ while a mast in Wrexham was being upgraded.

However the issues seemingly have not been resolved, with many people contacting Wrexham.com to comment on the lack of coverage in the areas and problems sending texts / receiving calls.

Ger Morris tweeted: “Six week anniversary of EE signal issues, but the one text that did get through was a bill/payment notification from them.” While Jemma Williams added: “Waiting for contract to end then I’m off elsewhere. Don’t even get signal where I work now!”

Chris Evans said: “The way it’s been over the last 12 months I’ve been struggling to get 3G on EE never mind 4G!”.

Eddie Williams added: “Would be nice to receive calls and not just a notification of a missed call. Doesn’t make sense.”

Councillor Hugh Jones even tweeted to say: “A phone signal of any g in Rossett would be progress.”

Last month Conservative Parlimentary Candidate for Wrexham, Andrew Atkinson met Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Sajid Javid who suggested that consumer pressure was the best approach to take in getting voices heard.

A spokesperson for EE said: “We’re constantly improving our network across the entire country, and part of Wrexham recently experienced an outage as we upgraded one of our masts to improve performance. This is part of an ongoing investigation into the network experience in Wrexham, as we look to deliver consistent reliable signal for people in the area.”
