Volunteers Breathe New Life Into Heddfan Unit’s Family Room
A team of volunteers and local artists have transformed a family room at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The newly refurbished family room at the hospital’s Heddfan Unit has been officially reopened after undergoing a transformation from a ‘bland, unloved clinical environment, into a pleasant and interesting place’.
The facility now features fresh new artwork created by local artists who volunteered their time.
Their creations were based on feedback from a group of young carers through Barnardo’s who gave their thoughts on what they’d like in a family room.
Young carers also created art for the three in-patient units themselves.
There to help officially open it at the grand unveiling were some of the organisations involved in bringing about this re-vamp, including Caniad, Unllais and Un Deg Un, as well as
The transformation has been praised by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s Vice Chair, Margaret Hanson, who also attended the grand unveiling.
Speaking about the work carried out, she said: “Their enthusiasm and willingness to collaborate and work together resulted in the transformation of what was a very bland, unloved clinical environment, into a pleasant and interesting place for families to spend quiet time visiting their relatives within the unit but away from the bustle of the ward areas.
“The purpose of the meeting today is to thank all those involved for all of their hard work and to acknowledge their contribution in helping us to improve the hospital environment.
“In BCUHB, we are firmly committed to improving the experience of patients and carers and today’s gathering is evidence of how co-production and collaboration can make a difference.”
