Officers from NWP Wrexham Town were called to 40 incidents in the last 24 hours – including reports of an assault, fire and the “pram bandits”.

The figure was released by Insp Luke Hughes as part of Tuesday’s public update on the sort of incidents that police attend on a daily basis.

Insp Hughes said: “I attend the in station heath screening – arranged by one of the local officers (thank you Sarah) and allows staff to have a number of health checks.

I volunteer. I find out I have high cholesterol, 7.4, is that bad? In fairness my blood pressure was good so the pram bandits aren’t driving me to an early grave just yet.

09:16hrs:Call from concerned member of the public, reports youths witnessed acting in an intimidating manner in the town centre, some with hoods up covering their faces. NPT attend and discuss, enquiries ongoing, no one should feel intimidated in our town centre.

11:31hrs: My heart skips a beat. Job reads “two females with a pram” one detained. The other one has run off. PRAM BANDITS… Sadly I realise it occurred yesterday.. Devastated… tasked out this morning for officer to collate CCTV, I think that’s at least 6 now and shows how crime figures can be significantly affected by the actions of only a few.

15:28hrs: Male seen riding in an antisocial manner on a quad bike, area search undertaken no sightings – officers will increase patrols in that area as its happening often.

15:36hrs: Report of assault – officers attend and record details – suspect is known and enquiries ongoing.

15:54hrs: Call from “Harry” on 999 – sounded like a young child playing. Harry apologises and hangs up.

16:20hrs: Report of suspicious / abandoned vehicle officers attended and confirm it hasn’t moved for around a month – not stolen – enquiries ongoing to trace owner.

16:27hrs: Report of female hit by vehicle – possible broken leg – officers attend – causality makes way to hospital with family, follow up required as to extent of injury and circumstances that led to collision. Not life threatening or life changing.

16:40hrs: Report of male stumbling into traffic on main road – officers attend locate and return home safely to prevent further incidents and keep him safe.

17:48hrs: Officers on patrol flagged down by member of the public as they thought a house was on fire – Churchill drive – fire service already in attendance.

Officers confirm a sofa in a rear garden is source of blaze. Assist with scene management and resume.

19:25hrs: Officers attend concern for safety event at Wrexham general train station – male is low but no immediate concerns – safely catches his train.

21:23hrs: Female causing issues at licensed premises in the town city centre – officers attend no immediate action required, slow time follow up.

23:16hrs: Male seen unconscious in the street, either intoxicated or unwell – has left prior to officers arriving having been abusive to ambulance staff.

03:28hrs: Report of males breaking into the coop in Borras. Officers make on an immediate response but confirm contractors at scene, stand down.

Well intentioned call. Thank you, I would rather officers attend ten of these than miss a genuine call.

03:35hrs: Male unhappy as he has been ejected from a late night venue in the town, want officers to assist him to get back in, told in no uncertain terms to go home.

Caller contacts us again wanting to make compliant about officers for not helping him.

I have no words It’s a thankless task some times.”
