Street entertainers set to delight visitors to Wrexham town centre

Street entertainers are set to put on a show for visitors to the town centre from this weekend.

Wrexham Council has unveiled a line-up of performers, including stilt walkers, magicians, jugglers and fire jesters, who will take to the streets throughout September.

It comes as Wrexham Council looks to provide “smaller” events that can be delivered safely are being planned to help encourage visitors into Wrexham town centre as Wales starts to ease its lockdown.

In July Wrexham.com reported that due to the restrictions on social distancing and on mass gatherings, the local authority was looking to provide an alternative schedule of events between September and Christmas.

A report backed by councillors over the summer, explained: “The idea is that small activities run from September to December so we don’t see a surge of visitors at one time, our aim is for people to feel safe to return to the town and not be put off by a large gathering but entertainers and trails around the town to create a vibrant atmosphere.

“Traditionally WCBC deliver a series of very popular Christmas events. These events usually attract over 70,000 visitors.

“Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, which we assume will continue for the foreseeable future, socially distancing would not permit these events to run safely.

“As a result, for 2020 we are looking at delivering a different events offer.”
