Residents at their wit’s end are calling on Wrexham Council to crackdown on parking problems on a Cefn Mawr estate amid fears that someone could get hurt.

People living near Ty Mawr Country Park on Cae Gwilym Lane say they are fed up with motorists causing congestion and obstructions on the roads.

The issues, which have been ongoing for sometime has led to concerns that someone could get seriously injured.

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates has called for action after being contacted by constituents.

He said: “The residents are sick of so many vehicles being shoehorned into a small, built-up area. They’re also worried from safety point of view because schoolchildren have to dodge in and out of the parked cars.”

Councillor Derek Wright has held a number of meetings with residents and council officers responsible for parking issues and hopes proposals to introduce double yellow lines come to fruition sooner rather than later.

Cllr Wright said: “We need something doing down there, it’s been getting worse recently. I am hopeful we’ll also see some action soon to tackle speeding.”

Cllr Wright and Mr Skates have previously called for traffic-calming measures to slow speeding drivers on Cae Gwilym Lane and support plans to introduce a 20mph limit on a number of busy neighbouring roads, including Queen Street and Hill Street.

Cllr David A Bithell Lead member for Environment and Transport said” “Officers have met on site with the locally elected Member to discuss issues around parking in the vicinity of Ty Mawr country Park, specifically on Cae Gwilym Lane.

“In response to these concerns, as Cllr Wright is aware, proposals have been developed for the implementation of parking restrictions in the form of Double Yellow Lines.

“Subject to the support of those residents affected and completion of all statutory legal procedures, new restrictions will be imposed in the area which it is hoped will alleviate the problems.

“A public consultation will be published in the next week or so and residents are encouraged to respond on the proposals.”
