Proposals To Convert Vacant Chapel To Residential Property
A disused chapel in Coedpoeth could be converted to a two storey dwelling if a planning application is successful.
The former Bethel Congregational Church, on Smithy Road has remained vacant and disused for a number of years. However if the current application is approved, the building could be converted to a residential property.
In total two parking spaces would be provided for the development.
Last August an application was submitted to demolish and replace the church with a modern four bedroom house was submitted to the Council.
However within the applications Design and Access Statement it notes that the applicants who purchased the site are reluctant to demolish it, however it is hoped that a residential conversion will encourage investment to renovate the buildings in a manner that will benefit the character of the area.
Within the Design and Access Statement it reads: “The fact the building has been vacant and unused for some years, which has led to its declining condition, is testimony to the fact that the site currently has no viable use as the current place of worship.”
The development of the property would mean that the appearance of the chapel would largely be retained. However due to the proposed conversion to a two storey building, changes would take place to the height of the existing windows.
