A seven-year-old boy from Wrexham who called 999 when he found his mum unresponsive on the floor has been commended for his courage.

Sunny Bennett rang an ambulance for help when his mum, Siobhan Roberts, suffered an epileptic seizure and collapsed in their home on Conway Drive on Sunday, August 21.

Sunny, who was at home with his six-year-old brother and 11-month-old sister at the time, dialled 999 and stayed on the phone until PC Emma Horne and PC Lydia Chapman arrived, after receiving a call for assistance from the ambulance service.

Sunny said he had had been taught by his mum how to call 999 in the event of an emergency because of her medical condition.

Siobhan, 23, who has since recovered from the seizure, said she was “amazed” by her son’s actions, and “couldn’t be prouder” of him.

After hearing of the incident, Inspector Luke Hughes presented Sunny with a certificate for his outstanding bravery and courage, along with PC Horne and PC Gary Yarwood.

Insp Hughes said: “Sunny told me in detail how he stayed calm, rang 999 and asked for an ambulance before staying with him mum until help arrived.

“PC Horne and PC Chapman were so impressed with how brave Sunny was that they really wanted to reward him.

“It was absolutely right that we recognise exactly how brave Sunny was and it was a privilege to meet him and present him with a certificate.

“Well done, Sunny, you were amazing”.

PC Horne added: “We don’t often see many calls where a seven-year-old has been so brave to pick up the phone and call 999.

“Sunny is truly deserving of this reward for his outstanding courage and bravery, during what we could only imagine was a very scary time for him and his little sister.”
