Visitors to the Tour of Britain in Wrexham have been praised following the news that no incidents were reported throughout the day.

Last Sunday over 10,000 visitors descended on Wrexham to watch the likes of Mark Cavendish and Sir Bradley Wiggins cycle into the town for the first stage of the week long Tour of Britain.

Over the past two years Wrexham has featured as part of the route for the event, however this was the first time the town had played host to Stage One of the Tour of Britain – which later on went to see Viviani take the gold jersey for the first day of the race.

Wrexham.com queried yesterday with Wrexham Council and North Wales Police regarding their personal feedback of the event, with Town Centre Inspector Paul Wycherley confirming that there had been no reported incidents throughout the day.

Inspector Wycherley added: “It was great to see all agencies working together for the event, there had been months of preparation involved – it was great to see the town centre so busy.

“There were no reported incidents reported to us throughout the day and we have received lots of positive feedback about the event. I’d like to thank all agencies involved. It shows that Wrexham can have big events and have no trouble. Everyone worked really well together.”

The event has received largely positive feedback from those who attended, with many later taking to social media to comment on the positive atmosphere and range of activities available throughout the day.

Wrexham has also received praise from those who attended on the organisation of the event and the volume of people who turned out to watch the race.

Cllr Neil Rogers, Lead Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, added: “Over 10,000 people were in Wrexham for the final leg of the First Day of the Tour of Britain and there was a fantastic atmosphere amongst the crowds. It is excellent news that the event passed without incident and is a tribute to all those who attended.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Council who were involved with the organisation of the event and all those who helped make it the success it was such as Arriva Wales who provided a shuttle bus free of charge to bring people into the town centre and Coleg Cambria for the use of their car park.”
