The first stage of the Tour of Britain ended in a photo finish in Wrexham this afternoon, with many saying it was the best finish in the history of the event.

Scores of people lined the route that weaved through the area, cumulating in a technical end to the event with a tricky turn by St Giles up through Chester Street to the finish line opposite Waterworld.

Wrexham Fan’s favourite Mark Cavendish told ITV: “I could sense Grepiel there and maybe I sensed it too much. Had I shut out the left maybe I would have got it.”

Earlier in the day we did a photo round up of the town before the race – you can see the pictures here. Below are some more we took during and after the event!

Perhaps our favourite non-cycling video of the day is of the Pop Up Pirate, plus a few other selected fun tweets below… including our local MP Ian Lucas riding a Penny Farthing!
