No answer to why Cardiff events got trains from North East Wales – but Wrexham events do not
Tomorrow sees two large events in town with the Wrexham – Bidston line being ‘affected’ until Monday.
We have previously queried why train units are regularly taken from the Wrexham – Bidston line and the service reduced when there are key events happening in Cardiff, with the appearance the South Wales lines benefit at the expense of local service. Most recently this has been when major rugby matches have been played in the capital.
With that unanswered we tried a couple of other routes to note that Wrexham football club has a huge FA cup game tomorrow, and one of if not the largest event in Wrexham takes place this weekend – Wales Comic Con – with 15,000 people due over the weekend but locally services will remain problematic.
Transport for Wales publicly said due to fleet shortages there have been no spare trains to increase capacity locally, and their Event team are restricted in what they can arrange as a result of a third of their fleet being out of service.
We enquired why that was possible one way, but not the other, and said it looked like preferential treatment.
There was no response to these queries.
Tomorrow (Saturday) on the Wrexham Central – Bidston line the following service will apply:
Between 0600 – 1830, trains will run every 2 hours, departing Wrexham Central at 07:32, 09:32, 11:32, 13:32, 15:32, 17:45 and then as per the advertised timetable, departing Bidston at 08:32, 10:32, 12:32, 14:32, 16:32, 18:45 and then as per the advertised timetable.
Replacement buses will run in lieu of cancelled trains.
The replacement bus timetable can be viewed here – which also contains the pick up and drop off points.
