Leader Circulation Drops Again – Daily Post Halts Slide
The latest newspaper circulation figures are out – showing some local press is following the overall national trend for declining readership.
The readership figures, or the ‘ABCs’, are from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the industry body for media measurement for newspapers and the like. Last August the figures showed both the Leader and Daily Post had dropped by -5.1% and -3.8% respectively in Wrexham.
The latest figures show The Leader have dropped by a further -5.8% from 9,131 copies daily to 8,593 copies.
The Daily Post has two editions, East and West, and the ‘East’ edition is the one that appears in newsstands around the Wrexham area. The new figures show they have a circulation of 10,409 daily, which is only 96 copies down on the previous figures (A 0.9% drop for completeness). The Daily Post has also increased its cover price from 50p to 55p, however this does not seem to have impacted sales.
The ABC figures cover editions between July 2012 and December 2012, which are 127 issues for the Leader and 150 issues for the Daily Post.
All but two regional dailies showed a dropped in circulation, with industry website ‘Hold The Frontpage’ giving a full breakdown here.
Despite performing well in these circulation figures the Daily Post’s owners Trinity Mirror announced job cuts at the start of the month, with some content related work moving to Liverpool.
