An investigation is underway after a flare was let off in a busy nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Yesterday Wrexham.com reported that firefighters had been called to Atik on Brook Street at 1:52am after a flare was let off inside the venue.

The club was hosting its ‘Stranger Things’ Wrexham Halloween edition event and was at capacity when the flare was let off.

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service told Wrexham.com that there was no ‘fire situation’ at the club, which up until recently was known as Liquid.

A full evacuation of the club had to take place while emergency services attended the scene.

Today Inspector for Wrexham Town Centre, Paul Wycherley said that CCTV from the night club and from Wrexham Council is being looked at to identify the person responsible.

Insp Wycherley continued: “With the people in Brook Street, we had no where to put them, the other clubs were full. We have their welfare to consider. Officers were occupied in closing road and making people safe.

“We normally expect people to leave a venue in dribs and drabs, however we have never seen a whole evacuation of a club.

“In my opinion it was good to test the procedures for the club, but it did mean everyone had their hands full when it was evacuated.”

He added: “I would like to thank everyone for their assistance during that period. We need to find who did it as it caused unnecessary risk to the people in the town centre.”
