Trains have been delayed after a suspected explosive device rumoured to be a grenade was found on the tracks in Gwersyllt.

Replacement buses were put on between Bidston and Wrexham Central as the discovery was made at around 5.45pm.

Becky Griffiths (@pinkbextor) and Carla Barkley (@clb0307) both contacted us to say that a friend had been on the train and that passengers had been told there was an explosive device on the track.

Steve (@l4vem) added that it was understood to be a grenade.

It comes less than two months after a live grenade was found and disabled by police bomb squads on disused rail line in Brynteg.

Emergency crews cleared the incident in Gwersyllt over two and a half hours later and trains were allowed through.

Update: Tuesday

It is understood that the device found on the railway line was in fact a dummy grenade similar to those used by the army in training.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal team which attended the scene established that the device did not need to be defused.

It remains unclear how the device came to be on the railway line.
