Army bomb disposal units have been called to Brynteg this evening after a grenade was found in the area. Locals reported a child playing around an old railway line finding it.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Broughton Road as local residents looked on in shock.

A remote control robotic disposal device was used to carry out a controlled explosion in a nearby field.

Wrexham.com spoke to a local eyewitness who told us what happened: “I was on my way home from work and driving from Brynteg to The Lodge when I saw a police car beside Freddy Whit’s field” they said.

“As we drew closer I noticed a police car outside the house opposite and a large bomb disposal unit vehicle in front of it with the bomb disposal remote controlled robot sat on the road.”

Another local source posted on Facebook: “I cant believe I have the bomb disposal out side my house, they have found a hand grenade and are going to blow it up in the field across the road.”
