The demolition of a former chapel in Wrexham town centre is set to begin this month.

The former Ebeneser Chapel, located on Chester Street is to be demolished to make way for flats.

The building has been boarded up for several weeks, with the site notice that demolition could begin as soon as Tuesday 16 November.

A site notice submitted to Wrexham Council proposing its demolition, states: “A brown brick building of triangular plan, circa 1975, currently suffering from damp and water ingress due to poor specification.”

In April 2016 Wrexham.com reported that the former chapel was due to be knocked down and replaced with flats.

The chapel was listed for sale in June 2014 for £500,000 and is on the border of the newly adopted Masterplan development site, with the town’s war memorial to the south.

The proposed development would see 23 new two bedroom flats built in a building tiered up to five storeys. There will be a similar number of parking spaces on the ground floor, with residential space above.

This will be the second building on the Bodhyfryd site to be demolished this month, with the public toilets on Waterworld Car Park demolished just over a week ago.
