Waterworld Car Park Toilets Demolished
The first of many expected changes on a prominent town centre site has taken place – with a block of public toilets being demolished.
The unisex toilets on the Waterworld Car Park site were knocked down last Wednesday, with ‘soft stripping’ of the site taking place early last week.
The demolition of the public toilets comes as part of a ‘revamp’ of the town centre’s public facilities, which include the £100,000 upgrading of the Henblas Street toilets.
In August an ‘application for prior notification of proposed demolition’ was submitted by Mr Stephen Bayley on behalf of Wrexham Council.
At the time reasons for demolition included ‘mitigating the ongoing antisocial behaviour issues and the significant investment in Henblas Street to provide male female and disabled toilets’.
The demolition of the toilets is the start of a series of changes to take place on the Bodhyfryd site over the next few years.
In 2017 the iconic breeze block police station is set to be demolished, with officers relocating to a new state of the art development in Llay. A town centre based station will also be created in the former Oriel Gallery space at the Wrexham Library.
Bodhyfryd also features prominently in the Town Centre Masterplan, indicating a mix of housing and retail could be built over the next ten years.
Last week Wrexham.com reported that the police station and its surrounding car parking had gone up for sale – wit the breeze block station due to be demolished in 2018.
