Council confirm High Street regeneration works will begin this summer
Regeneration works which will see the creation of outdoor dining and tree planting on Wrexham’s High Street are set to begin this summer.
Wrexham Council unveiled the ambitious plans for High Street, Town Hill and Abbot Street last year.
The proposals aim to enhance the street’s potential for events, street markets and create a ‘cafe style culture’, which will see new outdoor seating areas created for the High Street’s hospitality businesses.
Other plans include the planting of new trees and shrubbery – with similar works already taking place along the nearby Yorke Street.
Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead member for Economy at Wrexham Council said: “In response to a recent query about the High Street regeneration scheme, I can confirm that the works are due to commence in the early summer with an anticipated completion comfortably before Christmas in order to avoid disruption of festive trade.
“The works are to be funded by a mixture of UK and Welsh Government funding streams including the Shared Prosperity Fund, the Transforming Towns Fund and the Safer Streets Fund, for which I am extremely grateful.
“These exciting plans will transform this area of the city centre making it a more enjoyable area to visit and spend time.
“It will promote a café culture with existing and new hospitality businesses and will provide the opportunity to hold markets and events.”
