Anti-Frackers To Stay Despite Possible ‘Withdrawal’ From Borras Site
A gas company is set to withdraw from their site in Borras tomorrow in a move that is being labeled as a possible ‘turning point for the anti-fracking movement in Wales and beyond’.
The ‘Community Protection Camp’ in Borras has been told by North Wales Police that the iGas security operation at the fracking site at Commonwood is being withdrawn from tomorrow.
iGas describe themselves as a oil and gas exploration and production business, who also conducts hydraulic fracturing, or fracking as it is often called. They have previously said their interest in Borras is ‘exploratory’.
We are told: “Anti-fracking campaigners will mobilise after 9am to ensure the security team and their CCTV cameras get a warm send-off, in the hope that they will never return to Wrexham or Wales.”
There has been no confirmation as to why a withdrawal is taking place, with three reasons for the withdrawal being speculated on by anti-fracking protestors, namely:
1. The expense of maintaining 24/7 security was too expensive.
2. The farmer evicted them.
3. They are withdrawing from their plans to drill the site completely.
A spokesperson said: “Community protectors will maintain a presence at the site to ensure that the fracking firm does not return.
“This withdrawal could be temporary and motivated by cost-cutting rather than broader environmental concerns.”
