Administrators Grant Thornton have issued a statement today confirming that GHA Coaches Ltd has closed, with the loss of 320 jobs.

Jason Bell and Christopher Petts of Grant Thornton said “GHA Coaches is no longer operating and regrettably the staff have been made redundant today.

“We will explore all options in terms of bringing any part of the business back to life.

“However, our immediate responsibility is to look after the interests of the creditors.”

The administrators explained GHA Coaches Limited recently was subject to a winding-up petition from HMRC over unpaid taxes.

Reacting to yesterday’s announcement, Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said: “My thoughts are with GHA Coaches employees who face an uncertain time. This is extremely disappointing news, affecting Wrexham and the surrounding areas, and I will do all I can to protect Wrexham constituents.

“The Welsh Government, local authorities and external consultants are working closely with the management of GHA Coaches in an attempt to safeguard jobs and minimise service disruption.”

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates said: “The news of GHA’s problems is a bitter blow for our area, and our primary concern must be for those whose jobs are now at risk. I will help them in any way I can. The Welsh Government is working closely with local councils including Wrexham and Denbighshire to help those who rely on the services GHA is now unable to provide.”

MP Susan Elan Jones added: “Many of my constituents have been left stranded as result of this, and for a lot of people these buses are how they get to and from Wrexham Maelor Hospital. While our local councils are acting to provide alternatives, I offer my full support to the affected employees at such a difficult, uncertain time.”
